They didn't get that much of a payout in the BE by just being in the BCS.

The BE compiles all of their bowl money splits the bowl money evenly amongst all BE football teams.

Being in the BCS means you finished in first place which carries a decent bonus (1st, 2nd and 3rd are bonused) and you get additional travel money.  However, you as the participating school do not get half of your bowl money like most think.  Outside of the travel money you get the same percentage as all other teams in the league.

The BCS teams get about $5 million each directly.

This figure comes from reports when the new deal was signed.  Notre Dame was reduced from the total payout ($15 million) to what one team actually gets.

The rest is split among the other teams and the conference headquarters.

Just to further your point:

The Big East will pay stipends to football teams based on bowl appearances, with bonuses going to the top three finishers. The team that makes the Big East's Bowl Championship Series appearance, which will produce $13.5million for the league, will receive $1.8million. The Gator Bowl team will get $1.3million, the Insight Bowl team $1.2million and the Meineke Car Care Bowl team (and other conference teams that go to bowls) $1.1million.

The Big East champion will receive an additional $600,000, with $300,000 going to the runner-up and $100,000 to the third-place team.

U of L enters new era financially, too

If we win the Big East we get an additional $2.4 million over the other teams.

If we finish second and go to the Car Care Bowl, we get an additional $1.4 million.

i think miami has buyers remorse

not going to a bcs bowl will hurt them down the road

with recruits and their pocketbook

I agree with Smazza.  I think BC has the same remorse.  They would have been in the running to win the BE this year also.

I know Coker was not in favor of the move.

Not to mention it will start hurting them when it comes to recruits.  Maybe not in Florida but they do a lot of national recruiting.

Hurting when it comes to recruits?! Do you guys follow recruiting! Miami is going to have a top 3 class. They are the University of Miami and aren't going anywhere...

Easy there sparky!  I am not talking about this year.  I meant it will hurt them eventually.  If they can't win the ACC on a regular basis and go to BCS games it will start to hurt them in recruits at a national level.  There is a lot of competion for those kinds of players.
