Before their first home game in eight weeks to host recruits, the Bulls picked up a key local oral commitment.

Leslie Stirrups, a 6-foot-3, 265-pound defensive tackle from Hillsborough, chose the Bulls over Florida, Florida State and Georgia.

"I might as well come here and stay in my hometown, where my mom can see me play," said Stirrups, touted as a four-star recruit by scout.com. "I'm going to make some visits, but this is my school."

Stirrups said he'll need to improve his academic status to meet the NCAA's minimum eligibility requirement. He has a 2.3 grade-point average and took the SAT two weeks ago.

Not exaclty a ringing endorsement, but other schools might stay away since his academics seem shaky

After reading the information on Scout.Com,  I would expect Stirrups to go somewhere else.   He does not sound like he wants to be here and I for one only want players who want to be here.

Josh has said while Stirrups is looking elsewhere he is committed, and he also isn't expecting him to qualify. If that is true he'll be a JUCO for 2 years.

I heard that he is not going to be close to qualifying, but that is from someone at FSU. I would love to see him playin in RaJa

what are the academic minimums? are they the same everywhere? my guess is no...if that is the case do we abide by the ncaa minimums or do we have higher standards (i hope we do)?

Right now I believe our academic standards are NCAA minimum.
