Big East Game of the Week

West Virginia (6-1) at South Florida (3-3), 7:00 pm EST

Why to watch: The two programs that elevated their street cred with upsets of Louisville square off in a key Big East showdown in Tampa.  West Virginia’s win over the Cards last Saturday was one for the time capsule, a 46-44 come-from-behind victory in triple overtime.  Freshman RB Steve Slaton has come virtually out of nowhere the last two weeks, ruining for 327 yards and scoring seven touchdowns, a school-record six coming last weekend.  South Florida has lost its swagger, and hasn’t won a game since shocking Louisville nearly a month ago.  The Bulls got sideswiped in Pittsburgh, but can get right back into the thick of the Big East race with a home win this week.  The defenses and running games will dominate the action at Raymond James Stadium, however, don’t expect to see any aerial fireworks.  The ‘eers and Bulls are ranked 114th and 112th, respectively, in passing.

Why West Virginia might win: South Florida got exposed by a sub-par Pittsburgh team a week ago.  With Slaton running like he’s channeling Avon Cobourne, the Mounties 15th-ranked rush attack will control the tempo of the game and create lanes for QB Pat White to find WR Brandon Myles.  The physical West Virginia defense will feast on a one-dimensional Bull offense that’s getting nothing but migraines from QB Pat Julmiste.

Why South Florida might win: The Bulls are unbeaten at home, where they’ve yet to surrender more than 14 points in a game.  Led by versatile LBs Stephen Nicholas and Ben Moffitt, the defense gives up just 125 yards a game on the ground, which will serve them quite well with West Virginia heading into town.

Who to watch: White was sensational in place of starting QB Adam Bednarik Saturday, leading West Virginia back against Louisville.  Now he gets to show off his multi-dimensional talents as the starter.  White adds a new dimension of escapability, but needs to be more than just a jitterbug outside the pocket in order to give head coach Rich Rodriguez the offensive balance he craves.

What will happen: Particularly if Hurricane Wilma is in the area, points and passing yards will be at a premium in a nip-and-tuck game that’ll be decided by the kickers.  Advantage West Virginia and Pat McAfee, who’ll boot the game-winner late in the final frame.

CFN Prediction: West Virginia 23 ... South Florida 20  ...

Line: West Virginia -2

Must See Rating: (5 lock yourself in a room to watch - 1 The Tyra Banks Show) ... 3.5

Final Score:

Its funny that they call us a one dimensional offense and our passing game is ranked higher than theirs.

CollegeBCS.com is picking USF, but I guess we'll have to wait a little while longer for this game.
