I guess they were paying attention in some parts of the country.  Look at his prediction.

U-C-F (0-1) At South Florida (1-1)

GAME NOTES: A couple of schools separated by less than a 100 miles meet for the first-ever time this Saturday, as the UCF Golden Knights tangle with the South Florida Bulls in non-league play from Raymond James Stadium in Tampa. The Golden Knights started off their 2005 campaign in the same fashion they ended last season with a 24-15 loss at South Carolina. The loss increased UCF's losing streak to 16 games, which is the longest such skid in the nation. As a matter of fact, George O'Leary has yet to win a game at the helm of UCF, having gone 0-11 in his first season as head coach in 2004. The Knights may want to take a page from South Florida's book, as they earned their first victory by defeating a Division I-AA member, Florida A&M (37-3), last weekend. It was a nice rebound for the Bulls, who opened the year with a 23-13 setback at Penn State. USF, which went just 2-4 at home a year ago, is in the midst of a three-game homestand that will conclude with Louisville coming to town next weekend.

The Knights possessed one of the most inept offensive units in 2004 and ranked a dismal 114th in total yards (280.0 ypg), but after a solid showing against South Carolina there is definitely a glimmer of hope for improvement this year. UCF gained just 83 yards on the ground, but its determination to use the run opened up the air attack to the tune of 258 yards. Steven Moffett accounted for all those passing yards and finished the game with a touchdown and interception on 27-of-39 tosses. He was helped by some great catches by the dynamic duo of Brandon Marshall and Mike Walker. The two put forth a tremendous effort, as Marshall finished with 10 catches for 102 yards, while Walker turned in nine receptions for 105 yards and a score. As for the ground attack, Kevin Smith and Jason Peters each carried the ball 13 times, rushing for 47 and 41 yards, respectively.

Defensively, the Knights put forth an above average effort against South Carolina, which was kind of shocking considering the unit allowed over 32.0 ppg a year ago. The defense held the Steve Spurrier led attack to a modest 362 total yards, including just 32 rushing. The unit even came up with several big plays, forcing three fumbles and recording three sacks, in addition to holding South Carolina to just 1-of-8 on third down conversions. It was certainly a positive outing for UCF, which was led by Ronnell Sandy's seven stops. Chris Welsh also made the most of his limited playing time and finished with a sack and fumble recovery.

After being limited to just 297 yards in a season-opening loss to Penn State, the Bulls trounced a much inferior Florida A&M club to the tune of 490 total yards. Of the nearly 500 yards gained, 377 came on the ground compared to just 113 via the pass. The offense racked up 22 first downs in the victory, while scoring five touchdowns (four rushing). Andre Hall finally got things going last weekend, as he erupted for 156 yards and three scores on 18 carries. He had a sub par game against a much better Penn State squad, finishing with 74 yards on 21 attempts. Pat Julmiste, who threw for 200 yards and two scores in the opener, wasn't needed much last weekend and finished with 71 passing yards on 6-of-10 attempts. While Florida A&M should never be confused with Penn State, the Bulls did look sharp in tearing through a much weaker opponent.

On the defensive side of the ball, the Bulls were every bit as sharp as the offense and limited FAMU to just 85 total yards. The unit gave up a mere four first downs, while recording three sacks. USF, however, recorded just one turnovers in the victory after forcing three in a loss to Penn State. Still, the team's improvement from the 354 total yards allowed to Penn State could be a sign of good things to come. The defense did an especially good job against the run last weekend, giving up just 31 yards to FAMU. It was quite a turnaround from the 264 yards giving up on the ground to Penn State in the opener. Stephen Nicholas has certainly been the team's most productive player through two games and leads the team in tackles (11), TFLs (four) and sacks (three). Terrence Royal is another player worth noting, as he has posted eight tackles and 1.5 sacks through a pair of games.

UCF hasn't tasted victory in a very long time and will need a tremendous effort to do so today. South Florida is a solid club and playing in front of its home faithful should also play a factor in Saturday's outcome. Although the Knights appear to be improved, they still have a long way to go to beat a team like the Bulls in their own backyard. With another solid game from Hall and company, look for South Florida to roll.

Predicted Outcome

South Florida 34, UCF 14
