Two Bulls Receive American Weekly Honors
Peter Strzelecki was named the league’s pitcher of the week and David Villar was named to the weekly honor roll

PROVIDENCE, R.I., APRIL 16, 2018 – USF baseball redshirt senior right hander Peter Strzelecki (Lake Worth, Fla.) and junior David Villar (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) were named the American Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week and to the Weekly Honor Roll, respectively, the league announced Monday.

The two have been recognized by the league twice now, as Strzelecki was named to the weekly honor roll on March 12, and Villar was named the player of the week on March 5.

Strzelecki tossed a complete game and held No. 7 ECU to one run, while striking out four batters and walking only one in a 13-1 win Saturday. The Bulls went on to take Game 3 on Sunday to clinch a key series victory on the road. Strzelecki scattered five hits and faced five over the minimum and lowered his season ERA to 2.67.

Batting .467 through four games, Villar led USF with seven hits, five runs scored, two doubles and a game-winning home run, as the Bulls took down No. 7 ECU in the pivotal three-game series. The junior third baseman started the week with two doubles at Stetson, capturing his 15th and 16th of the season, which ranks sixth in the country. He had two multi-hit games against the Pirates over the weekend and hit his seventh homer of the season in Sunday’s 5-4 win, which ultimately turned out to be the game-winner.

The Bulls return home for a Tuesday night tilt against North Florida before welcoming rival UCF into town for a three-game series beginning Friday.

Awesome. They have been huge for us all year. Genord and Villar are a dynamic duo in the heart of that order.

Isn’t this our third sweep of these weekly awards?

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."
