Orioles' Palmeiro suspended 10 days for violating steroids policy

By RONALD BLUM, AP Sports Writer

August 1, 2005

NEW YORK (AP) -- Rafael Palmeiro was suspended Monday for violating Major League Baseball's steroids policy, nearly five months after telling Congress that ``I have never used steroids. Period.''

Palmeiro two weeks ago collected his 3,000th hit, joining Hank Aaron, Willie Mays and Eddie Murray as the only players with 3,000 hits and 500 homers.

Palmeiro, 40, is the seventh and highest-profile player to test positive under the major league policy adopted earlier this year.

NOW we know why Bonds isn't trying to come back too fast.  They're ALL going to get caught....

How ironic.... ::)  I'm glad he was caught... first big name to officially get caught.

Its too bad bonds isn't back, they can't test disabled list players right?

He was under oath, does that mean he can go to prison for perjury now?

Also ironic... many claimed Jose's book revelations lacked credibility, especially after the Raffy claim of Jose personnaly injecting Raffy with steroids.

Now i'm not saying that Jose is telling the truth, but ...  maybe he is, and that is one less thing to dispute.  (he's still a nutcase)

if only this had happened a couple weeks ago before hit #3000.  it would have been the ultimate slap in the face to the cheater to get stuck at 2999

the test was done in the april/may timeframe most likely, so it will be hard for a perjury charge to be brought
