Canes land star QB

Pat Devlin  By Bob Lichtenfels East Recruiting Analyst

Date: Jul 7, 2005

Pennsylvania could have as many as 10-12 quarterbacks go D-1 this season, but the consensus says Pat Devlin is the top prospect. On Wednesday, Devlin made his college selection.

The wait is over for Exeter (Pa.) Downingtown East quarterback Pat Devlin (6-4, 200, 4.65) as he has finally found the right fit. The National Top 100 selection committed to Miami yesterday.

"I committed to Miami yesterday, Devlin said. "I called Coach Werner and Coach Coker and told them I'd like to accept their offer if it is still available."

Devlin took a mid-June trip to Coral gables, but he insists the process came down to the end.

"I called Virginia and told them, I tried to get in touch with Coach Loeffler at Michigan, but he wasn't there. Devlin said. "I visited all three schools and felt that Miami had the right combination of Academics, teammates, and coaching."

Was Miami the choice all along for Devlin?

"Actually it took a while to figure everything out," Devlin said.

The Hurricanes aren't finished yet, according to Devlin they're still looking at bringing in another quarterback.

"I hope we get him, I look forward to the competition."

Devlin and his father are very close, did the distance play a factor at all in his decision process?

"We talked about it, but it was never really a factor into my decision."

The endi of the process was sort of bittersweet for Devlin.

"It was a great process, I'm glad I can now focus on my senior season," Devlin said.

Devlin was named first-team Associated Press Class AAAA All-State, first-team All-Chester-Montgomery County. He Passed for 2,913 yards and 27 touchdowns as a sophomore. He completed 147 of 231 passes for 2,237 yards and 21 touchdowns as a junior.

WHY SHOULD BULLS CARE!

I think Cuban made a good case as to why we should be interested but this probably should be on the State of Florida board ...

I care too, that is one less Florida prospect that Miami can give a scholarship too next season, which in turn is good for us.
