Randy Oravetz, FSU's director of sports medicine, said doctors will repair a tendon in Weatherford's left ankle. In 2004, Weatherford received a medical hardship after spraining his right ankle against North Carolina. The Land O'Lakes native is coming off an impressive spring when he and Xavier Lee closed the gap on junior starter Wyatt Sexton. In the spring game, Weatherford completed 5 of 9 passes for 24 yards. It's too early to know whether the injury will hamper Weatherford's chances this fall. After rehabilitation, Weatherford expects to have a full month to get in shape before two-a-day practices begin in August. Weatherford said team doctors told him the injury was the result of ''normal wear and tear.'' An MRI this week revealed the tendon injury. Andrew Borom, a Tallahassee foot and ankle specialist, is slated to perform the surgery. Link

I spoke with Drew early on this evening. The surgery was actually to repair a tendon on the outside of the ankle, not actually something in the ankle. It is a problem he has been coping with since he injured the ankle during mat drills in February and the condition has worsened over time. The surgery was "successful" and the total rehab is supposed to take 8-10 weeks if everything heals as its supposed to. The biggest downfall to the surgery for Drew was the change in his summer plans. Instead of going home, he is now staying in Tallahassee for the rehabilitation. Other than that, Drew is in high spirits and plans on being back on the field at the beginning of fall practices in August and being right back in the competition for the starting QB spot. That's all for now. More updates as they become available.~The SourceYou stay classy Tampa.......

Is the job open or simply Sexton's to lose? How do they rank out right now?
The_Source Posted May 7, 2005 Group: Member Topic Count: 0 Content Count: 11 Reputation: 0 Days Won: 0 Joined: 05/02/2005 Share Posted May 7, 2005 If the Miami game were tomorrow, Wyatt would most likely be the starter. For whatever reason, they are high on Wyatt, really just for the experience factor. However, Wyatt's recent arrest will definitely give the coaching staff an out if they want to give the opportunity to Xavier or Drew. So while it is Wyatt's job right now, I wouldn't be surprised to see either of the other two come Labor Day. Xavier is always ready to go so he should be much discussed when two-a-days start in August. And despite the recent surgery, Drew is optimistic he will be back at 100% when two-a-days start. So while I guess the job is wide open in some respects, it is Wyatt's to lose right now. He definitely has some stiff competition behind him.~The SourceYou stay classy Tampa.....
