Three Things I Can't Wait To See This Fall In The Big East

Ivan Maisel

1. Can the new membership come out of the gate looking like a conference worthy of an automatic BCS bid? Will Louisville establish itself as the anchor in the league, or will that fall to the old-line triumvirate of Pittsburgh-West Virginia-Syracuse?

2. Connecticut tailback Terry Caulley led the nation in rushing in mid-2003 when he blew out a knee. Is he the same back, and can he and All-Big East back Cornell Brockington coexist in the same backfield?

3. Rutgers tight end Clark Harris quietly established himself as one of the best in the nation last year. Keep an eye on him -- the NFL will.

Pat Forde

1. Brian Brohm and Michael Bush as the centerpieces of the Louisville offense. The two hometown stars turned down the rest of America for this opportunity to star for the Cardinals as they chase their first BCS bid.

2. How does Dave Wannstedt do on campus at Pittsburgh, and how does Greg Robinson do as the boss at Syracuse? Both are in new settings at programs that believe they can compete for a league championship -- which one does better?

3. Cincinnati and South Florida put up a good fight in their first year as Big East members. Mike Dantonio had a good first year with the Bearcats, and Jim Leavitt has established his credentials in Tampa.

The topic could have been 3 things to watch out for

1. Terry Caulley

2. Cornell Brockington

3. Larry Taylor

We also have another very talented back in Matt Lawrence.

Uconn is going to be more run orientated this year. Because our number one strength is the run, look for the Huskies to run the opition alot. Also, I have heard credible reports that Uconn is going to play some wish bone.

For those who never heard of Taylor, he is a lighting fast spark plug. He is as ever exciting to watch as Caulley. Both these guys are built similar. Taylor he a bit faster where as Caulley perhaps is a bit stronger.

Caulley played well in the spring game. He had a couple bursts for big plays. He says he is back, but the report is that he still is not running with the same aggressiveness he did before his freak injury (no one touched him).

Uconn has depth at running back. The key will be can our young offensive line create holes for them. We lost three big trees to graduation last year. It will be especially hard to replace Ryan Krug - who is now trying out for the New England Patriots.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
