McMurray Named Preseason Second Team All-Conference

PHILADELPHIA, OCT. 24, 2016 – Sophomore guard Jahmal McMurray was named to the American Athletic Conference’s Preseason Second Team on Monday.

The Topeka, Kan., native begins his sophomore season after one of the most impressive seasons for a freshman in USF history. McMurray’s 15.2 points per game was the sixth-best in the conference and the fourth-best of any freshman in the 45-year history of the program. His 500 points scored was second all-time among USF freshmen only to Dominique Jones’ 531 in 2007-08.

McMurray will once again be one of the top 3-point threats in the conference after averaging 2.2 three’s per game and shooting 34.6 percent from beyond the arc as a freshman. He finished the season with at least one made 3-pointer in 28 consecutive games and his 73 3-pointers made was the eighth-most anyone has made in one season at USF.

Monday’s recognition marked the sixth time McMurray had been honored by the conference. He was named to the American Athletic Conference All-Rookie Team in March, the American Rookie of the Week on Jan. 25 and Feb. 22 and the honor roll on Jan. 4 and March 7.

McMurray is one of five Bulls that return from last season’s team. USF was picked to finish 10^th in the preseason poll voted on by the conference’s 11 head coaches. Cincinnati was picked as the favorite to win the league.

Manderson can play second semester, so around when conference play starts. Malik Martin isn't eligible due to transfer rules, he can play next season.

And our two prized recruits, Troy Baxter and Andres Feliz, didn't make it on campus. I'm hoping Bibby will turn out to be a steal at PG.
