(April 14, 2005) Tampa, Fla. – Stephanie Bradley, an outside hitter, and Kate Verhoff, a setter, have signed a national letter of intent with the University of South Florida, Bulls’ head coach Claire Lessinger announced today.

Bradley, 6-1, is from Orange Park, Fla., where she played for Middleburg High School and the Blaze Volleyball Club. She was first team all-state as a junior and senior and the Jacksonville Area Player of the Year in her senior season. Bradley was also named to Team Florida in her junior and senior seasons and was listed number 81 in the nation on PrepVolleyball.com.

The school record-holder in career kills and service aces, Bradley led her team in kills as a sophomore, junior and senior, blocks as a freshman, sophomore and junior, and digs and aces as a senior.

Bradley is the daughter of Keith and Debbie Bradley of Orange Park, Fla., and she has a younger sister, Jan.

“Stephanie brings some new dimensions to our team,†says Lessinger. “We are thrilled to have a dynamic attacker on the outside, who will be a physical blocker because of her size. Her athleticism will allow our offense to speed up and create more versatility between all positions.

Verhoff, 5-10, played for Elyria (Ohio) High School and the Cleveland Volleyball Club. She was a four-year starter and two year captain for her high school team, and in her senior season, she was named first team all-Ohio and was Miss Volleyball in Lorain County. Additionally, she was the Pioneer Conference Player of the Year (also as a junior) as well as the District 3 Player of the Year.

She led her team to a 24-3 record in her senior season and he team's four-year record was 91-13. Verhoff had 630 assists in her senior season and finished the year with a 99.6% setting ratio.

Also an outstanding basketball player, Verhoff was first team all-Ohio and the conference Player of the Year as well Miss Basketball in the county. She leaves Elyria as the school’s second all-time leading scorer. She was coached by Carol Russo.

Verhoff is the daughter of Charles and Darlene Verhoff and she has three older sisters.

“Kate is hands down one of the most natural talents we have ever had in a freshman class,†says Lessinger. “Her natural ability combined with her highly intelligent court sense makes a dynamic duo in the sport of volleyball. We look forward to the impact she will have on this program in the next four years.â€Â

“I can’t say enough about this incoming class as a whole,†adds Lessinger. “The current players have worked extremely hard in the off-season to create the new foundation for USF Volleyball and I believe these freshmen will blend right into the dynamics already created. The future is bright.â€Â

We need big girls very badly, I believe that Stephanie is our only girl over 6 feet.....But we make up for that with digging very well and causing the other team to make mistakes.....Can't wait for it to start

“In my mind, I’m kind of like, ‘OK, excuses over'. We know what we need to do. We’ve got the right team together, and now we move forward, and we’ll evaluate and be accountable to each other, including myself, from this point forward.”
