  1. Spoke with someone today who is definitely in the know with respect to OCS renderings (can't tell you who). But that person confirmed that the OCS is still in "intense design phase" and that renderings won't be published until that phase is complete. There is no timetable (the focus is on getting it right, not getting it done quickly), and a release of renderings is not imminent. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but thought I should pass that nugget of info along...
  2. We ain't about being picky about wins my man. We're taking each and every win we can get at this point. As we should be.
  3. I'm not sure whether the confusion it caused was intentional (for the publicity it received) or unintentional. If the latter, USF could have avoided the problem by using All Caps. Just sayin'.
  4. My feeling is he played us. Just wanted Colorado to bid to the max. And it worked.
  5. So we can play them WITHOUT losing a conference championship?
  6. We apparently sent a USF delegation with Derrick Brooks to convince Deion that he should come to USF. Seems like we had some vision and cojones. But even if we had matched what Colorado offered (a tall order considering our vastly different resources), he was going to go with the P5 school. He basically said so himself in his interview. It's easy to armchair criticize when one has no responsibility to the school in terms of dollars and cents. Sure - throw the bag at him! But whose bag? And do we even have a bag to throw? If you don't know the answers to those questions, the criticism is meaningless. The evidence we have strongly suggests there's nothing more we could have done. Deion needed someone to bid for him, to get the absolute most he could from Colorado. He did - USF - and it worked perfectly for him. Time to move on.
  7. Agreed. Seems like USF would be a great investment. It's all a bit circular. Some people say USF is irrelevant because it's not in a so-called "power" conference. They also say USF would remain irrelevant, even if it was in a so-called "power" conference, but I'm not so sure. There's no magic to it. If USF were in say, the B1G, USF would become relevant overnight, precisely because it would be the only Florida school playing against Ohio State and Penn State. There's a significant recruiting advantage to that, not to mention the TV money that would eventually come in America's 11th largest TV market. We need CAG and the university administration to develop athletics to the point that it could be a viable option to the B1G or the ACC if Florida and/or Miami leave (no need for our degens to point out that it isn't viable now - I know that, so you can save your snark). SEC and Big 12 already have their Florida schools.
  8. I'd like to see more bubble screens with effective blocking by our WRs. Mix in a short to medium-range slant or two. An occasional wheel route with Nayquan would be nice. A jet sweep every now and then. In other words, we need more creativity! I'm just terrified of regressing back into Sterlin Gilbert-era playcalling. Florida talent demands you get guys into space and let them do the work for you. Your playbook can mature in the meantime.
  9. Not worried about Rice I think we've got it in the bag
  10. I'm just glad that I haven't had to rely on ESPN+ too much this year - at least, so far. Hopefully we can get on ESPN, ESPN2, or ESPNU more during conference play than we have in recent years. I'd rather not subscribe to ESPN+ unless I have to. Possible silver lining due to the departures of other large metro areas (Cincinnati, Houston, Orlando)...?
  11. Just saw that our game vs. Navy is set for 4 p.m. on CBSSN. Have to say, I've been pretty happy with game times and broadcast coverage so far this year. The FAMU game was on ESPN+ (not surprising given the opponent), but otherwise we've been on, or will be on, CBSSN, ABC, or ESPNU. I wonder if we're picking up on any of the TV spots formerly reserved for Cincinnati, Houston, and C. Florida games?
  12. Unlike the Rays' new baseball stadium, the OCS will (finally) be in the right location.
  13. Most significant thing in this video is that Derrick Brooks apparently helped make the pitch. I don’t think he wastes his time unless he thought USF had a serious shot.
  14. He had some interesting things to say about USF:
  15. If it slows them down at all offensively, and keeps us in the game longer, I'm supportive!
  16. Ha. I guess it’s time. I’ve got two degrees from UF and just one from USF. But I’m a Tampa guy that attended USF when football arrived. Was also a member of the first HOT marching band. So I’m 95% Bull, with say, a 5% dash of Gator.
  17. As a part-time Gator fan I would love to see this if Napier doesn't work out. Would be awesome to see Deion coach for UF against FSU. Recall that FSU passed on Deion in favor of Norvell.
  18. Could be. But I honestly think Saban doesn't give that much thought to these kinds of things. He knows USF is in Tampa, in what most people think of as central Florida on a map. And that's probably why he said central Florida. We're such a non-threat to Alabama at this point that I don't think he's even going to bother to try insulting us.
  19. Hadn't really thought about the weeding-out aspect of the process, but you're right. Over a year or two, the players who can't keep up will either be pushed down on the depth chart, or leave the program entirely. It's kind of like what Deion is doing at Colorado, but a slower burn. I'm optimistic about this year, but I think next year is when we'll really see improvement.
  20. Honest question - why does playing "fast" seem to correlate to improved execution over time? It seems that teams that play "fast" often significantly increase offensive production within only a year or two. I recognize that talent and coaching also play big parts, but I wonder if there's also a psychological component here? If I'm a player on offense and I know we're going to play "fast," maybe I'm spending more time in the playbook/working harder in practice to make sure I understand all the wrinkles of that play, so I can operate more from muscle memory when the time comes? Maybe there's a big learning curve at first (season one), but once you've got it, you've got it and can focus on execution? Just seems like CAG at least helped to engineer significant turnarounds in only one or two seasons. Gives me some optimism for both this year and next.
