  1. Old fart that I am, even though I understand football is an emotional game, I'd prefer players just go celebrate briefly with their own teammates and line up for the next play. It just isn't worth the risk of a taunting penalty. You see so many great defensive plays negated by over-the-top celebrations. It's a shame.
  2. Regarding Rice - they seem tough to figure out. Are they really better than we think (maybe they are?), or is Houston just not as good as we thought? Houston's game against UTSA was closer than I expected. Can't really say because I didn't catch either game. Anyways, because I don't really have high expectations, for me every FBS win this year is gravy. If we go bowling in CAG's year one I'd be over the moon!
  3. I'm in the "show me progress this year, it's not necessary to go bowling" camp. That said, I think we have a solid shot. Doable, even while we struggle: FAU UAB Temple Rice Charlotte Also doable, but more challenging: Navy UConn Very challenging, but not impossible: UTSA Memphis Loss: Alabama
  4. I bet Aresco is trying to negotiate a week zero or Thanksgiving solution for Army/Navy (both pre and post 2028), but even failing that, we'll still bring them in and make it a nonconference game. And I'm good with any arrangement we can make with them.
  5. Simple summary regarding the lawsuit OSU and Wazzou brought against the PAC-12 today, which is indirectly relevant to the AAC and USF:
  6. I think Mosaic Fertilizer will pay for naming rights. Makes sense - Bulls produce it, then Mosaic refines i!
  7. I promise you, things don't bubble up this far (including announcement of a major donation yesterday) without knowing precisely how people are going to vote at the BOG meeting. This really is just a formality. EDIT: Btw, this doesn't mean there will be no "no" votes. It just means that there will be fewer than the "yes" votes.
  8. According to the Tallahassee Democrat, "USF is 0-4 all-time against FAMU[.]" Maybe this year we can pick up our first win against these juggernauts!
  9. Good idea. It would be smart to first reveal the renderings on the jumbotron at one of the football games that is otherwise likely to see low attendance (Rice?), to see if we can't pump up our numbers some.
  10. The docs on the BOG website say construction would start in October 2023. But I wouldn't get too excited - things probably won't start going vertical until next year.
  11. How about "Bring me to life" by Evanescence. Chorus seems appropriate to "sleeping giant" USF: ... wake me up inside (I can't wake up) wake me up inside (Save me) call my name and save me from the dark (Wake me up) bid my blood to run (I can't wake up) before I come undone (Save me) save me from the nothing I've become ...
  12. Thought I'd read that we were locked into 6 AQ + 6 at large for a few years. Thanks for the correction. FWIW here's a relevant article with some good background: https://www.cbssports.com/college-football/news/how-a-shrinking-pac-12-could-alter-the-selection-process-for-the-the-12-team-college-football-playoff/
  13. Yeah. Different time. FSU and Clemson can buy a few players, too...
  14. Understood, thanks. But that 5-7 compromise would begin, at the soonest, in three years, right - that's my question? Because we're locked in to 6-6 for the next three years (unless there's unanimous approval to do otherwise, which won't happen).
  15. So that'll be the fight then. Here's hoping that Aresco is up to the task! But to clarify, in the meantime (the next three years), we're staying at 6-6? And because of that, the merged PAC/MWC doesn't really have an access advantage over the AAC - is that right?
  16. So that means we keep the 6+6 format for at least the next three years? If that's the case, not sure there's that big of an advantage to the MWC to a reverse merger in terms of CFP access (I understand that there would be other advantages/revenues). The AAC will still be the sixth-best conference, unless something crazy happens and we're overtaken by CUSA or the Sun Belt, which seems very unlikely to me. Am I reading that right?
  17. Looking forward to reading the Matt Baker and Tampa Bay Business Journal articles announcing this gift, just above their articles expressing concern about the financial costs of the OCS. Btw I strongly suspect more gifts are coming. Looking forward to the naming rights aspect of this deal. Bull's-Eye Barbecue Stadium, anyone?
  18. I know this won't be a popular opinion in this thread, but the solution to our predicament is to play good football. It's that simple. This will draw new fans and increase donations. The rest will take care of itself. We may or may not end up in a better conference (although I really do think we will, and sooner rather than later). But putting too much emotional energy into something we cannot (immediately) control does us no good.
  19. Wishing you and your bride the best in her recovery!
  20. Yeah. I think under ordinary circumstances, the ACC wouldn't have given SMU a second thought. But unfortunately, these weren't ordinary circumstances and SMU played their cards right. I look forward to seeing the ponies get pummeled every year by Wake and Duke (not to mention FSU and Clemson).
  21. The ACC (actually, Swarbrick) really really needed a land bridge between them and the west coast. SMU seized on the opportunity and offered itself up for free. The only consolation for me as a USF fan is that none of this has really impacted whether USF could get into the ACC (n.b.: the ACC isn't picking off western Big 12 teams any time soon due to the Big 12's GOR). Only FSU's departure could facilitate an invitation. And that's if we've recovered from our 5-year funk by the time it comes. In the meantime, we desperately need to get this OCS built and become competitive in our current conference.
  22. Just to clarify, this is old. The meeting has already been rescheduled to September 8 (tomorrow). There's a zoom link. Here are all the details. I echo the sentiments of everyone else. Just hand these "concerned" people a box of tissues and start construction. Serious people have work to do.
