  1. If we don't win the conference championship this year, we might be screwed for a looong time.
  2. Leavitt was an adamant Ray Jay supporter and continuously asked for the building of an IPF instead. He always said the OCS was not necessary when playing in an NFL stadium.
  3. I’d be so completely down for this. We have been able to schedule huge out of conference games on our own that will draw bigger attendances than Tulsa and SMU. But the TV deal that the AAC has with ESPN is nice exposure. Quick question, and follow me here, does USF need ESPN? Whats keeping USF from just broadcasting their own games on GoUSFBulls.com? That way we keep all ad revenue for our own. So if we schedule big programs and stream all the games our own, we could generate pretty good earnings.
  4. Whatever the stadium looks like, I'm just gonna be so happy/satisfied that it will be 10000X better than the rustbucket in Orlando. Should definitely give us an edge in recruiting over them if we make it to the P6.
  5. Stadium's getting built. Might as well just keep it positive, like everything related to Kelly and CJS.
  6. This I agree with. Although I could even argue that 2016 was our highest peak as it is the highest we’ve ever ended a season in terms of ranking. Grothe’s teams never ended a single season ranked. Also, Big East teams like Pitt and WVU have way bigger followings than ECU and Tulsa, I’m sure that also affected attendance numbers. It’s more impressive we reached 40,000+ for an AAC game tbh.
  7. What conference trophies did Grothe win? How many times was he an all-american? What nationally recognized awards did he win? The answers to all those questions is 0. He also threw as many INTs as TDs. What exactly did he accomplish in the long run to deserve to be glorified forever on USF stadium? If we’re gonna glorify every quarterback with a winning record that comes through USF…
  8. We should only include players who make it to All-Americans or win some sort of nationally recognized award. I like the criteria that another school who has been playing football way longer than us uses: Criteria to Merit Consideration Heisman Trophy Winners All-Americans Inducted into either the collegiate or NFL Hall of Fame for Accomplishments as Players All-Americans Who Are NFL Career Category Leaders Coaches with multiple conference championships Players with 2 or more consensus All-American honors (AP, Walter Camp, Sporting News, AFCA, FWAA, UPI) Players who have been named National Offensive/Defensive Players of Year (AP, Walter Camp, Sporting News, ABC, AFCA, FWAA, UPI) Obviously LRS deserves recognition as well. Only LRS and George Selvie deserve a Ring of Honor recognition imo for now. We cannot just give this prize out like its nothing; otherwise it loses its value. Tradition doesn't get built overnight.
  9. Ooh I like this discussion. A couple of things come to mind. Put in Grothe and his decision-making almost 1:1 TD-INT ratio into the QF teams, do we win more games? Idk about that. Give QF the 2007 or 2009 defense, do we lose more games than we did? IMO we probably win more. Also, Grothe might've lacked a true 1RB ala Marlon Mack, but USF RBs (not counting Grothe) accounted for more than 1,300 yds rushing in 2007 and 2008, so it wasn't like he was totally void of talent and production in the RB position, I'd argue Mike Ford is one of the most naturally talented players ever at USF - production was just far more spread out than in the QF era. He also did have Carlton Mitchell who played in the NFL for a couple of years and its pretty crazy to see the way MVS has evolved into an NFL star. I don't think many of us would've predicted the magnitude of his pro success to the extent that it has based on his USF experience alone.
  10. Didn't BJ lose more games than he won? A losing record alone should keep his name far away from a "ring of honor."
  11. Pitt, who was mid-major in the Big East, alone had bigger and faster players than most teams in the AAC. It was actually exciting to watch Big East football, while I have to force myself to get excited about watching AAC football. This one is pretty easy. Also, Flowers > Grothe = Daniels Can't imagine what a prime QF and his fantastic football protection (Grothe's biggest flaw) would've done with the 2007 or 2009 defense.
  12. There’s something exciting about watching a tiger prowl outdoors, but watching a bull just stand there eating grass and dealing with SJW fall back? Pass.
  13. Those teams aren’t coming to check out the pirate ship at Ray Jay. They’re coming for recruiting purposes and an easy W. I don’t think it matters to them where it happens.
  14. Wow that is genius, and definitely "home field advantage."
  15. Hopefully we choose a design that emphasizes acoustics in terms of taking crowd noise down to the field like Autzen stadium in Oregon. Now I realize first we need fans for crowd noise to be an issue at all but I think if we can actually start winning some games we could get decent crowds again. The 2017 Cincy game had over 40,000 fans at Ray Jay so there is hope.
  16. Even if the internet didn’t exist this rivalry would’ve still emerged. The close proximity of the schools, the similarity in the names, the whole Tampa vs. Orlando thing. To say this was purely an internet creation is a bit ill-advised.
  17. I just want ONE conference title. Don’t care who it is against.
  18. Going to Ray Jay when we’re not good - “meh” Going on the USF campus, tailgating there, reminisce about old times, watch a football game on campus even if we’re not good - “” Red Ray Jay feels like a neutral field.
  19. @Friscobullkind of nailed it. It’s not that I’m opposed to going to the campus for a non-gameday but an on-campus football game definitely provides more incentive to actually do so with non-Alums. I’m the only member of my family to have attended USF so it’d be hard to convince close ones to accompany me to solely look at buildings. Also, as a non-Bucs fan who can’t afford luxury boxes, Ray Jay doesn’t do it for me.
  20. We definitely have the foundations now to become #2 in the state.
  21. Agreed. I haven't had a reason to go onto the USF campus since I graduated, but would love to have a reason to. Especially to check out all the new construction and stuff. My high school students who go on campus visits say that we now have the prettiest campus in Florida, besides the location in the middle of suitcase city (whatever, feels like a college town lol). Can't wait to go back regularly for football games, may even become a season ticket holder once I move out of Gainesville and back to the Tampa Bay area.
  22. I am a believer that had he hired a competent D Coordinator instead of Chris Cosh he might’ve been given a couple more years. Most games in 2012 were lost in the last couple of minutes. It’s those little decisions in life…
