  1. That is so sweet. Must have been a Navy home game if it's on CBS? They are playing in Dublin, Ireland. Navy-Notre Dame rivalry shifts to Ireland Aug. 29, 2012 4:34 PM ET ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) - The storied rivalry between Navy and Notre Dame is no longer a one-sided affair. Notre Dame ran off an NCAA-record 43 straight wins in the series before Navy ended the streak with a 46-44 victory in 2007. The Midshipmen won again on the road in 2009, and a victory in 2010 gave Navy's senior class three victories in the series - a feat only accomplished twice before, in 1937 and 1964. The Fighting Irish rebounded from the 2010 loss to beat Navy 56-14 last year, and hope to build on that win Saturday when the rivalry resumes in Dublin. Navy senior slotback John Howell will never forget the euphoria of that 35-17 win two years ago. Fullback Alexander Teich and quarterback Ricky Dobbs led the way as the Midshipmen piled up 438 yards of total offense. "It was an awesome game. Offensively, everything was clicking. It just seemed like every play was working and everyone executed," Howell said. "You put that many points and yards up on a high-caliber team and it's a lot of fun." Howell also remembers the sting of last year's lopsided loss. "I felt like people were too laid-back for that game. We came in more relaxed than usual and weren't on point," Howell said. "They jumped on us early and took total control. It wasn't the way a Navy team is supposed to play. It was embarrassing." Navy senior safety Tra'ves Bush played in that 2010 win and last year started at outside linebacker in the nickel package. He finished with eight tackles, but his heroics came in a defeat that completed a six-game losing streak during a 5-7 season. "That's what we try to get across to these young guys," Bush said. "We've all been on a team that won 10 games, and we've also been on a team that only won five. We were all on a team that beat Notre Dame pretty good, but we were also on a team that lost pretty badly to Notre Dame." The Irish, similarly, are taking nothing for granted. A journey to Ireland will be fun, but Notre Dame is treating this like a business trip. "Navy is a good team to start off with," wide receiver John Goodman said. "I think they are tough physically and play really disciplined football. It's what we need to face right off the bat. I think we're ready to play, more than last year." Notre Dame defensive end Kapron Lewis-Moore is one of several players among the Irish who, like the Midshipmen, have experienced both the good and the bad in this rivalry. Moore will be key figure Saturday because it's up to him to put an outside seal on Navy's potent triple option. "They are a very capable squad every year," he said of Navy. "The best thing is to watch film, because we can't simulate the speed that Navy goes. They are a really well coached team." Lewis-Moore is in Ireland to play football, but he's also thrilled about this one-of-a-kind road trip. "I'm looking forward to doing something new. I've never been across the ocean or the pond, like everybody says," he said. "I'm excited to see something different. I heard it's gorgeous out there and hopefully we'll do a little sightseeing." When it comes time for the kickoff, Navy left guard Josh Cabral knows the Midshipmen have to perform at a high level to win. "I think we've developed a sense that if we go in there and play as hard as we can and execute at a high level we have a chance," Cabral said. "Obviously, we have to play perfect football in a lot of areas in order to beat them." Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly is 1-1 against the Midshipmen. Navy coach Ken Niumatalolo is 2-2 against Notre Dame, a record he knows won't mean a thing Saturday. "We're not worried about 2010 and we're trying to forget last season," Niumatalolo said. "This is a new year and we're just trying to get ready for a football game. Right now, our main concern is making sure we know what we're doing so we have a chance to compete."
  2. Very unselfish player who could have played a number of positions. I am really hoping that USF offers his brother LB Auggie Sanchez who put up fantastic numbers last year and is much bigger than Armando. Don't know why we haven't. I joke to some extent, but in all seriousness this guy had to have 75%+ of the special teams tackles when he was on the field. We missed him last year when he got hurt. Gunner is the term used for players that excel at tackling on ST. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gunner_%28American_football%29
  3. It depends on if they have strong position coaches on the field to motivate and teach what they are calling down from the box. Does no good if they are up there and can't get the team going even if they know what to do.

  6. So I guess as long as Miami is the only loss, its better to beat FSU.
  7. I was going to say that Apis. But then thought that was how USF dropped from being #2. Beating ranked teams, losing to non-ranked. That's why I said both. And Bullwinkle, three way and four way ties currently in some situations, the highest ranked team gets the BCS bid. Louisville currently has the most votes in two of the polls used in the BCS formula, hence a head start. That's what I meant, in case there is a co champion situation that relies on rank, Louisville currently is ahead in votes... and technically, lol, we are all currently tied for 1st in the Big East, at 0-0. A selection committee is going to choose the playoff teams in 2014. Its not going to be conference champion like the Big East wanted, that we know. The Big East will have a conference championship game by then and what if USF is ranked top #5 and loses in the championship to an unranked team? I would think they would still be the highest ranked Big East team and the one most eligible, yet unlikely, to be the one chosen for the playoffs/former BCS bowl games. But in a season where the other 5 conferences beat themselves up, a 1 win Big East team might have a chance if the the other contenders have 3 or more losses. Hey, it could happen, lol. And the Big East Champion would be in a lessor bowl, not the playoffs. That is what I meant. http://espn.go.com/blog/ncfnation/post/_/id/62402/playoff-impact-on-big-east
  8. Of course defeating both is important-especially if we meet one in a BCS Bowl. But, I think we only need to win our conference in the regular season to get to such a bowl-unless we need an at-large bid. The Big East OFTEN has co-champs. The higher ranked one goes to the BCS bowl game. Louisville has a head start. Where did you hear that? I read it. On a poll. Used to calculate the BCS rankings. But after finding the rules on tie breakers it looks like BCS rankings will be what's used in 2014, so until then, its a verbose algorithm to figure out what happens if more than one team ties for the best Big East record. Sometimes its ranking, sometimes its who beats who. http://www.cbssports...tball/rankings

  10. It may be flash. I bought the NFL Rewind package. Thing would stutter and keep pausing. And this is my connection, So I contact support. They said right click on the screen, go to settings, and on the storage option that has a folder icon, move the slider higher than 100k. Fixed it right off the bat. Not saying that is the problem, but try it. I hate Flash.
  11. 1. USF 2. 46-7 3) Shaw 4) Davis 5) 444 And if I win, slip in my prize from a couple of seasons back too. Better late than never.
  12. Great shirt and price. I was wearing my Big Time Football shirt out today.
  13. Partially true, The defense, in beast mode, kept USF in games and also got the ball back a key moments. Don't know how many of those games would be losses if not for the D. 2010 Defense Highlights 2005 Defense
  14. And this relates to the real world, how? Coincidence. Just like Madden 13 has the Seahawks cutting TO in preseason. That being said, it relates to the real world about the same as the opinions espoused all over this forum.
  15. Funny you mention Elite 11...this year's MVP.
  16. Bizarre. In Madden 13, the script written by EA Sports, in their studio in Orlando, has the fictitious projected #1 draft pick for 2013 being a FAU WR, a favorite for the Heisman. So weird.
  17. I'd have to agree with whoever said that this is the first year in USF's 15 year history that the team probably has 2 deep starting talent at just about every position. I'd would say that the D line and LBs are the strength of the defense and the WR depth is the best ever. And we have some good RBs too. You'd have to ask others about game day atmosphere.
  18. Well, I would be on the lookout for two guys on defense for a start. Giddens at DE and Lattimore at OLB. Both are on preseason watch lists. Probably Webster at CB too. He's in the Notre Dame record books.
  19. The Big East was founded the same year. And has so far survived attempts by other conferences and ESPN to kill it. Of the two, the Big East has proven its a survivor, more so than ESPN. Going to another network and help them cut into ESPN's ratings would be perfect karma.
  20. Or moot. Sorry, I couldn't resist. No, I want them to shut up. I don't care if its irrelevant. lol Why do we have to shut up? This is a flipping message board. Seriously what is so wrong about espousing our feelings about an OCS? I'm not mad, just curious as to why you feel the need for that. How many threads on how many versions of this forum are going to be devoted to "espousing feeling" about an OCS? They are the same as the ones espoused on the first thread on another version of the board. Its all the same argument over and over. At least before it was in its own area away from events that were noteworthy and topical. This is neither. Well this thread wan't intended to go back over the same old argument. Just to say that the crowds at the softball playoff last year and the soccer game this year were really terrific and made for good TV for those watching. If baseball gets going as it should they'll get support, too. So why not enjoy these new venues and support these programs on campus rabidly and leave the football program at Ray Jay until the money starts to overflow from football. That's a theory, kind of strange if you ask me, but OK, its different. And what followed were the same old arguments. Here, let me bring up another of the old arguments so you guys can espouse on that, lol, recruiting. You guys seemed to have lost a little steam so lets rehash that all over too. After all the dust has cleared from the back and forth on the issue, it really boils down to economics. Unless someone is writing a huge check, its about as likely to happen as USF buying a private 747 for the team to fly to its west coast games.
