  1. The "cool" commercial is one of our best and worst. It's good because it really does highlight the improvements and impact the university makes. Its bad because "cool" is such a non-academic grading and just sounds like we are grasping for any honor. Plus, Judy's performance with having to throw the ball is just too cheesy.
  2. If we do, at least we didn't have to petition the White House to do it.
  3. Just pointing out that UCF doesn't have a men's track or cross country program, just women's.
  4. Is it too much to ask to win every event, conference title, and national championship from here till I die and beyond? But if I had to ask for just one thing, I would go with a basketball national championship (provided I was in attendance for every game of the tournament).
  5. No way this is real. 1) There is no USF logo visible. 2) How does this end up on ebay before being seen publicly?
  6. I know. But I think regular season titles are just as important as tournaments (if not more telling). Look at UConn baseball, they are Big East tournament champs, but did just enough in the regular season to get into the tournament. They got hot at the right time. Or look at the 2011 Men's soccer team, they were hands down the best team in the conference and won the regular season, but one game against an official cost us a shot in the tournament.
  7. I'm going to expand the list a little more for accuracy.
  8. The Tampa winds tend to blow east-west. The problem with doing a horseshoe (or something like Ray Jay) in that direction is having the sun directly in the eyes of the players. The field would have to be at a diagonal to off set that. That said, I do think we should design a stadium that considers the wind. If anyone has been to Florida Field in Gainesville, you know that there is zero wind in that stadium and it is nearly unbearable. Also, I still like the idea of a covering, sorta like Husky Stadium in Washington, or some of the European soccer stadiums. It would provide shade for the fans (and rain cover) while keeping the elements in play, it would help retain the sound in the stadium, and (if done right) could give the stadium some character and uniqueness.
  9. Yeah, its been a while since I've seen the original plans, but I believe the dorms up in that area were going to be family dorms much like what Magnolia Apartments are today. I really wish the campus had been a half mile or so the east where the Hillsborough River was either the edge of campus or ran through it. It would make the campus so much more iconic.
  10. If you told me we would go 5-3 (7-5), I would take that. But adding in that we would lose to UCF and Rutgers makes it less palatable for me.
  11. I didnt know about this can you post or PM me some info so I can go this wekend while Im in Tampa/ It's Riverfront Park. Its always been USF property since the school opened. The original plan was to develop that entire stretch from what is today the Claw to the river, including a President's house right on the river. But I think it was all scrapped because of the wetlands and such, which is why we can't really touch any of that property. Property can most certainly be reassigned, swapped or transferred between departments if the University wants it to be. This is not two separate entities where one needs to be made whole. It is cheaper to build on the open campus rec fields than it is to redevelop land with existing facilities, the rec field would just end up somewhere else. The bigger obstacle is the Patel building and what is planned around it. If the plans (which I obviously havent seen) do call for an expansion of the footprint of academic buildings around Patel then a stadium in that area may not be possible. The property cannot simply be reassigned. It's an actual transaction between the departments. This happened when the old football practice fields were made into the new sports club fields, when half of the IM softball fields were used to build the new football practice facility, and when the "upper IM fields" were made into Corbett Stadium.
  12. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2339939/KU-Boobs-ordered-cease-desist-University-Kansas.html I have 3 things to say. 1) 'MERICA! 2) Why isn't USF represented? 3) Can we invite KU to the AAC? Looks like they're talented.
  13. To everyone saying RJS is not a good venue for college football.... September 28, 2007 USF vs WVU - 67,018 I was there that night and that was a college football stadium. I'm not going to say its the greatest college stadium, but when packed (by USF fans) it can be loud and electric. (But I still thing we need our own place on campus)
  14. If they were to build either south of the Sun Dome or north of the practice facility, Athletics would have to buy the fields from campus rec (yes, it may all be university property, but these departments have to 'buy' the property because they are part of their budget). It also means Campus Rec would demand money for a new sports facility with fields (possibly with more softball fields). Not sure if they would have room for something like that on-campus or they might look to FSU who built a massive field complex off campus (5 softball diamonds, 21 fields, 4 of which are for lacross & rugby). Again, not sure if the university has the money to buy land elsewhere in the area to build something like that.
  15. Anyone know for sure how the conference schedule and tournament will work? I'm guessing it will be a home-and-away with every team for 18 games total. I wonder if only the top 8 make the tournament or will they do all 10 with the top 6 with the bye and bottom 4 in the opening round?
  16. Can't speak for others, but what bothers me is that they didn't even try in the tourney. There should be some sort of punishment for that. This. I watched the tournament and it looked as if Lousiville was going through the motions. They didn't even throw their ace pitcher who was the Big East pitcher of the year. To me they assumed that they were in and didn't need to play. There needs to be some kind of consequence for that.
  17. There's also a reason it's an official high school sport in Florida. 138 boy's teams and 114 girl's teams. In the NCAA, there are currently 63 men's teams (the nearest is Jacksonville University followed by Duke), and 100 women's (Florida, Jacksonville, and Stetson all being in-state). It's a growing sport in Florida. Just because kids play it in high school, doesn't mean a college should throw down millions to create a team. You're right that that shouldn't be the reason, but your insinuation that it's not popular in Florida as reason not to start a team is false. It's not popular, jut because kids play it doesn't mean it's popular. I seriously doubt many kids from Florida are playing lacrosse beyond high school. Just like wrestling, or whatever else. So all these high school programs being added in the last 10 years, plus the addition of college programs now is just pure coincidence? Do you see many high schools or colleges adding wrestling to their program? Growth equates to popularity.

  20. Our club team beat UF this year. Assume makes an Ass out of U and Me Club level is not NCAA. This is why I would think this would be a good candidate for an expansion sport, there is a growing community and only one men's and women's team in the state. I think it would be a great addition. I wouldn't go as far as saying that it would benefit us in getting into another conference (someone above alluded to this). I mentioned that it would make us a little more appealing to the ACC since they are big on lacrosse. I wouldn't go so far as to say that it would get us into or being the deciding factor, but it would be a nice little addition to the resume and it wouldn't hurt.

  22. Sorry, Louisville shouldn't be hosting. Don't be surprised if Miami wins that region.
