  1. In practice yes, but in theory there could be 10 auto teams. For example, Nos. 1 and 2 are both teams that don't win their conferences, so couple that with those two conference champs and you have four. The other four conference champs makes eight. And then some combination of at-large teams seeded No. 3 or 4 or teams like Boise State ranked in the top 12 from a non-BCS school.
  2. I am so sick of this comment!!!  10 years is a long time to develop a band.  Geez, the band has had almost 3 full classes graduate!  OSU, Wisconsin, ND all these bands replace people every year and they seem to be able to teach them what to do and how to do it.  It is an excuse that does not hold up.  I'm sorry, but the band in college football does make a difference and there are many fans that are more interested in an enjoyable show than how many yards per carry the team averages.  The average fan is way more interested in the total experience than the nuts and bolts of the game. Want to attract guys?  Attract women.  Want to attract women, create an "event" atmosphere.  Sure, there are a couple of hundred that are really interested in our offenses line calls, but the most are there for the experience of the event of seeing their school win.  Stadiums are not full of die hard fans that know whether #81 pushed off or was interferred with.  THey are full of a mix of people of various ages that are there for the event.  A USF football game is not an event.  It is a football game.  The game at Louisville last night, was an event and the place was packed, the band played a big role, and the atmosphere was fun.  It is not comparable to RJ, sorry but it is not. I would imagine strong history and tradition is just as important in getting the top band performers and instructors to a school as it is getting the top athletes and coaches. Again, all due respect to the Herd of Thunder, but I don't think 14-year-old band members are dreaming of playing at USF one day at this point; at the very least, there are about 6 billion times more dreaming of one day dotting the "i" in Ohio at the OSU-Michigan game.
  3. The unfortunate thing is that I don't think they name a freshman second-team, so Grothe may not get the postseason love that many of us feel he deserves. Colt McCoy is good, he's **** good. I live 45 minutes from Austin, so I've had him shoved down my throat all season - and I am also a UT alum, so it's not like I hate them or anything. I just think it sucks that the country's not going to now just how badass Grothe is ... until next year when he makes the regular All-American squad.
  4. Don't count on it. Colt McCoy has been better against tougher competition ... and he's only thrown four interceptions. Grothe, with two big games to close the season, could take the spot, but for now it's firmly McCoy's.
  5. Buffalo is a good basketball program. Unlike USF, Buffalo did come close contending for a NCAA bid just 18 months ago. Actually, Buffalo came within 0.5 seconds of earning a NCAA Bid in 2005...as they lost the MAC Championship Game by 1 pt on a tip-in with 0.5 secs left. They did earn though a NIT bid...and won their first round game in 2005 as well. The attraction for the USF/Buffalo game should of been could USF pull off the upset? Answer was Yes. Fans might of missed a good game. When you're in a conference with UConn, Cincinnati, Georgetown, Pitt, Marquette, St. Johns and more, and your goal is an upset of Buffalo, you're not going to draw many fans because it means you suck. Most people I know don't enjoy watching bad basketball. I understand the concept of baby steps, but how many baby steps does it take before McCullum's team starts ******* walking? In his three seasons, they've gone 7-20 (1-15), 14-16 (5-11) and 7-22 (1-15). Sure they went to the C-USA semis a couple of years ago (despite a losing record), but they're in a much tougher league now. The school basically cut the basketball program at the knees with the Big East move for the sake of the football program (a good move, I'd say), and now I think McCullum is out of his league. If they go 1-15 in-conference again this year, I think it's time for them to cut their losses and find a guy who can help the team get up to speed.
  6. I guess, since we won 5 straight since rutgers, that the cincy game never happened either. We need more intelligent people to be writing this stuff...or is it that there aren't enough to go around?  It's basic research.  It can't be THAT hard. Ummmm ... the story says "The Bulls aren't ranked in the top 20, but they've won four of their last five since a 22-20 loss to Rutgers." But whatever.
  7. A competitive team that is worth anyone's time to watch would be a start. You've got that. Too bad you're obviously too ignorant when it comes to college hoops to realize it. Wow, good point. It's not that seven wins - only one in conference - is incredibly awful, it's that I just don't know good basketball when I see it. Right! Idiot. EDIT: But hey, we beat Buffalo. Buffalo! We've *got* to be good.
  8. A competitive team that is worth anyone's time to watch would be a start.
  9. Bowls can't choose a 6-6 bowl eligible team as long as there's a 7-5 (or otherwise winning record) bowl eligbile team available. I'm pretty sure someone somewhere else on this board quoted the exact provision somewhere recently.
  10. I'm hardly a regular poster on this board, but I'd say if they do lose both games, to just remember that next time you decide to ***** when someone says we're a longshot to beat one of the two best teams in the conference. I think we're going to beat Louisville and lose a close one to West Virginia, but I wouldn't be shocked if we lose both; it's what I expected all year until this week. If/when we do beat one of them, don't come out and say anything similar to "I told you so," please, because nobody wants to read it and I'm sure you picked us to win against Kansas, Rutgers and Cincinnati. You cry about "one logical reason," I have three: Rutgers, Kansas and Cincinnati. That's at least two more reasons to doubt them than you have to expect them to win. Shut the hell up. Be optimistic, but keep some perspective because you sound like a ******* idiot. ****.
  11. So we've gotten better since being 21-point underdogs at home last year. Man, I can't wait to see the pounding we put on them this time, than.
  12. And, somehow, two more than UCF, if I'm doing the math correctly.
  13. Actually, they will.  Florida will be ahead of them in the Computer Polls last week, and are ahead of them in the Coaches poll this week (Harris poll is not out yet). As long as Florida wins out, they will stay ahead of USC -- and in the National Championship game. Because Michigan beat Notre Dame 47-21 -- in South Bend. Florida is ahead and will stay ahead of USC. If both lose, it will be a OSU-Michigan rematch. JMHO Two things: 1. USC's schedule is harder to close the year than UF's, so they could still move up. 2. You're saying Mich. beating Notre Dame on the road is a reason, as Joe put it, voters will "put a 1 loss Michigan out of the title game over 1 loss ND?" Oh no, you just didn't read it in your haste to sound like a smartass. Got it.
  14. Steve Slaton or Ray Rice will win it. They both had outstanding games, and in Rice's case it was in a much more important game.
  15. Yes that's exactly what he said actually. How is it bogus when we get called for something, and bogus when someone else doesn't get flagged for, as he put it, "the same thing." If it's wrong to call it, and it's wrong to not call it, than what's the right decision? I didn't see the game, mind you. I'm guessing they were either probably not "the same thing." If not, at least one of the two decisions was, in fact, not "bogus."
  16. I've never done one of these before. USF 31-17 365 yards Ean Randolph EDIT to say that, if I had been asked in the preseason, I would have predicted a Louisville win easy. It's amazing how much a great player like Grothe can just completely change a team's fortunes. I'm so excited about this game.
  17. Rutgers is No. 8 in the new Coaches' poll. WVU is No. 7. Louisville is No. 12. UF is No. 3, USC No. 4 and Auburn and Cal dropped to Nos. 15 and 17, respectively. USF didn't receive any votes.
  18. The Rutgers/West Virginia winner will be the only Big East team in the BCS. The at-large bids will go to Notre Dame, Boise State, the OSU/Michigan loser and an SEC team, probably LSU but if Arkansas somehow wins out, including the SEC title game, I'd say it goes to UF, even if they do lose said SEC title game. The BCS teams, I say: Big East: West Virginia (11-1) SEC: Florida (12-1 after beating Arkansas in the SEC Championship Game) ACC: It doesn't really matter; I think the winner of Wake Forest/Maryland beats Georgia Tech in the ACC Championship Game. The only thing that really matters is that Boise State will stay ahead of the ACC winner in the BCS standings, and even that loses relevance because Boise State will likely crack to the top 12 in the standings this week. Big Ten: Ohio State (12-0) Big XII: Texas (11-2 after beating Nebraska in the Big XII Championship Game) Pac 10: USC (10-2 after beating Cal but losing to Notre Dame) At-Larges: Notre Dame (11-1), Michigan (11-1), Boise State (12-0) and LSU (10-2) Just missing the cut, in no particular order: Arkansas (10-3 after losing to LSU and Florida in the SEC title game); Wisconsin (11-1, with its only loss to Michigan); and Rutgers (11-1). Also notable will be Oklahoma (10-2); Louisville (10-2); Auburn (10-2); and UCF (3-9). I really hope we beat West Virginia, in which case you can swap Rutgers and West Virginia in this; I think we have a much better chance of beating them that I thought two months ago, that's for sure. But I just don't think it's going to happen. I do, however, think, after seeing Rutgers shut Louisville down, that we can go up there and beat the Cardinals. I think our defense will slow them down enough that Grothe can make some big plays and get us to 8-4, hopefully 9-4 after the bowl game.
  19. I can't speak for FSU, but since I live in Gainesville, let me just say you have to fight your way to the interstate, and everywhere else in this crappy little town. It can and does take 30 mins to drive 2 miles from campus to the interstate.  As for people who leave early, who cares so long as they show up and cheer while they are there. Just accept that there will always be people who leave during the 3rd and 4th quarter and enjoy the unobstructed view and lack of seat kicking.  I lived in Gainesville for a year and yes traffic is bad on game days, but most of the people that actually live in Gainesville just walk to the stadium. Most of the people that live in Tampa don't have that luxury.
  20. People at UF and FSU don't have to fight traffic on the ******* interstate to leave; at least not the students.
  21. Comparing Rutgers to Auburn any year is ******* hilarious. Good one.
  22. 1. Cincinnati killed us, so that makes any "we're better than them" argument moot. 2. USF isn't 7-5 yet, and personally, after seeing the last two weeks, I think we will win one of the two road games (WVU/Louisville; probably Louisville) to go 8-4 with a win Saturday.. 3. Given the location, Cincy will be a better draw than USF will; if you don't understand by now that records have absolutely nothing to do with picking bowl participants at that low level, than you never will.
  23. I want every team on our schedule to win every single one of their games except the one against us. If they do beat us, I hope they go undefeated. It all makes us look better, as well as the conference. Obviously it's not possible for every conference team to go undefeated, so now I hope Louisville and WVU both lose to us and win out (with the obvious exception of Thursday's game). Although I must say, when we play the Gators, I'll still hope for them to lose every ******* game that year and every year.
