  1. What? Are you kidding? The reason I hate the Tribune is because of the unethical cocksocking so many of their reporters do behind the scenes of their beats, something McMurphy is a very good example of. smazza chimed in with: "i would like to think of BM as more than just a journalist he is a friend of usf" Which pretty much makes him not a journalist. Not a good one, anyway. And from someone else: "If he really hated USF, then why would he become the USF beat writer for the Tribune?  I am sure that if he wanted to perform other sportswriter duties, that the Tribune could find some rookie journalist to do the job." ... because it beats covering high school football maybe? A rookie can't do this job; this is a 1A football program you're talking about. There are people way below McMurphy on the ladder who would kill for his job. And he does a good job covering the university, if you overlook his ethics compromises.
  2. I agree with your point, but Blackwell is a pretty crazy standard to hold guys to. That's like saying nobody should be QB at Florida if they can't win the Heisman and a National Title like Weurful did. It certainly looks like Grothe is going to be a huge star and is going to help vault this program to at least within striking distance of the top of the conference ... but honestly, I'd still love him as long as he was better than Ronnie Banks.
  3. Isn't there a rule against current student athletes being used in ads? They are on ads and promos all the time ... they can not be paid is the only rule. Not only can the athletes not be paid, but nobody is allowed to make money of their names. This is why video games are not allowed to include players' names. It's a rule designed to prevent the exploitation of young athletes. I'm not sure how a commercial would fall under that, though I'm pretty sure commercials generally advertising big games include names. I've never paid much attention.
  4. More like "if he really were one of the 10 best linebackers in the country, he'd be playing at Ohio State or Texas." If USF did land a player worthy of consideration for this award, than he, as has been pointed out, would not be shut down by *Kansas.* Nicholas is good. He's **** good. But he's not the best linebacker in the country. Get over it.
  5. Finishing second in the Big East isn't the same as being the "Big East No. 2" bowl selection. They're pretty much completely unrelated, in fact.
  6. Is that possible? What, did you think he had been good for anything besides the four big plays against Louisville last year?
  7. I know I am also ! Go BULLS !!! Yeah I know I'm late to the party with this line of thinking, but I really think Grothe is going to be a star. Right now, he's getting some brief love during short Sportscenter clips, but 2-3 years from now, hell maybe even next year, their going to be talking him up. I think with some work - and maybe a few better offensive players around him - he can be to the Big East what Pat White is now. Or perhaps a better analogy is that he can be what Blackwell was to the program as it prepped for the transition to 1-A. Regardless, I see great things for him and for the team he's leading.
  8. The media doesn't get what ... that Rutgers barely held on against a team that lost to *Kansas* and barely snuck by a I-AA team? Oh, whenever will they learn! The AP is the media poll and it's not the best poll to judge teams.  Meanwhile in the coaches poll, RU remains the same at #23.  In fact Boston College drop out of the Coaches poll after a win.  The coaches poll has more creditability than the AP.  Also, RU remained at #23 in the Harris poll. Yes ... the same coaches poll that landed Texas a BCS game two years ago because of Mack Brown's plea to his fellow coaches. It's dripping with credibility ... er, "creditability."
  9. : 83% ? So you would not be impressed if we ended the regular season 10-2 ? with the easy  home schedule usf has had over that span 83% isnt that impressive. True we weren't playing Miami or Oklahoma at home ... but USF wasn't exactly Miami or Oklahoma themselves there either. We're playing Rutgers, who, while very good, is also not Miami (of before this year) or Oklahoma, so these figures are very relevent. Besides there are some pretty good teams included in those 48 games: Louisville twice, Bowling Green ... OK that's all I got. That, and **** I wish we had beaten TCU in 2003.
  10. The story is a great read. You, on the other hand ... not so much.
  11. Call me crazy, but it might have something to do with us losing to UConn. Nationally, we're not seen as on par with UL or WVU because, get this, we're not on par with them. I think *you* are just a tad unrealistic, out of touch and/or dillusional.
  12. I just can't remember when or where, but I *know* I've seen a player play with a cast on his hand before and play really well. I want to say it was a linebacker somewhere, and I specifically remember him batting down several passes with the cast hand. Not sure if it was college or pro.
  13. I was going post a similar comparison  :-[ I think we have a lot more room for improvement than WVU does. I can't honestly say I think we'll beat them, and if we played tomorrow, it would probably be an embarrasing slaughter, but we have two months to get ready. I think it may be a lot closer than some of you guys think.
  14. Hey Smazza, You have a point. I would have to concede that USF has the better team until proven otherwise ON the field. However, from general perceptions I dont think there is a distinction made as the #1 step-child in Florida. In addition, the UCF team you played last year was the remenence of a debacle that started with something similar to what USF is going through right now. If I were you, I would be realistic and realize that the same thing can happen at USF. Lets break it down. USF Short History, Great Stides BCS Status Used superior strategy of playing lesser teams to build and then beating several marquee programs. Not many starters in NFL name recognition average Defeated UL and Pitt No OCS Poor revenue streams Small Fan Base Average Facilities Average Academics Lower Football Academics Standings Less Publicity BEAT UCF UCF Long History Scheduled Marquee programs and constantly got beat down except for the Daunte Days. ~dozen starters in NFL Name recognition average Never defeated ranked team OCS Larger Fan Base Better Revenue streams as of 07 Excellent facilites Average Academics Higher Football Acad. Standards More Publicity LOSS TO USF I would say the programs both have their advantages. You may disagree with my analysis and I appreciate your opinion. However, I think there is no #4, just 3 and the rest. USF being #4 is a figment of your imagination along with the rest of the fans on this board. Until it is received by the media and the state of Florida it really means nothing does it? Most of the "publicity" UCF received last year was due to the pat on the back they got for actually managing to win a game. When you're the only team in 1A to not win a game, *any* kind of victory is going to get you decent attention on Sportscenter. People felt sorry for you! It goes to show, if you set your standards low enough, ANYTHING seems like success. Rather get publicity as a cinderella story than for smoking weed, stealing cameras, and failing school..LOL. I dont think TCC/HCC/SFU has been around long enough to go through a down period. I am confident out Duante team would have creamed any team you ever fielded. In addition, we will be destroying you Saturday. I have been watching USF on catch 47. Your offense looks like a HS offense. 1. I'm not sure "down period" and "winless season" are even close to the same thing. USF has had down periods - we call them back-to-back losses. UCF calls them back-to-back seasons. 2. Considering USF didn't even have a team when Culpepper was in town, I'm not sure what your point is. Culpepper is good, no doubt, but a lot of good it did that program, right? 3. Are you really arguing that UCF players are angels? Get real. Of course, that could help explain 2004.
  15. I think you dramatically underestimate West Virginia. USC is great, no doubt, but WVU is too. And I'm not sure USC's defense could keep up with White and Slaton.

  17. I'm sure any contract with them would be only on the condition that the team does move up to 1A. USF is run by idiots, but I can't imagine they'd trap themselves into playing a 1AA team on the road.
  18. Two thoughts on that: 1) In both cases, those teams still played tougher teams than us thus far, and 2) WV and Louisville both have won a couple of blowouts, so opposing offenses were just throwing and throwing. Of course their going to give up some yardage playing backups and leading a billion to nothing. Let's see how we stand after two or three more games. Right now, none of these numbers mean anything.
  19. So I attended USF for two years, but for reasons beyond my control had to leave and finish my degree at the University of Texas. UT was a good school and I enjoyed it there and support them, but my first allegiance is always with USF. Tonight, I went to the UT-Ohio State game, but wore my Bulls colors. More than one person saw the Bull and made comments along the lines of "that's not UT's logo," and I told them that's because it's a South Florida shirt. Leaving the game, a couple of people who I had held these conversations with said things on the way out, culminating with one (extremely) drunk UT fan saying, "we're still better than south ******* florida." I said, yeah, well my team won tonight (nevermind against who or how...), and...he threw a cup of beer at me.
  20. Umm...I'd be surprised if Lee Corso actually picks a winner for the USF/UCF game, or if ESPN even acknowledges the game in any meaningful way.
  21. Yeah Louisville not playing up to expectations could be bad for the league, but I don't think people will really think "Oh Louisville couldn't win 10 games when their running back broke his leg? Losers." I think the Big East critics will be slightly more forgiving than that, but I do think that's far from a given. And while the injury was nasty and it sucks to see, I'll be honest, a small part inside of me said "well, our chances in that game just improved."
  22. Let's not forget ... both time we beat them, they were undefeated coming in. Let's hope for a threepeat there this year!
  23. Using that logic, it's safe to assume we killed UConn, since we destroyed Louisville. So we definitely go and lose at con...oh, wait. But we definitely went and beat Pittsburgh, I mean Louisville beat them and we killed the Cardinals. So I'm sure we killed the Pant...oh, wait. This is the most retarded logic I've ever seen (not that you are the only one to ever use it). You are out of your mind if you think USF last year was anything even remotely close to Penn State's level. As for whether we're as good this year as we were last year...that remains to be seen, but I'm not as (foolishly) optimistic as you are.
  24. A hell of a lot more than Miami gets from playing USF, that's for sure!
