1. What's interesting about that? Leavitt repeatedly held out for more money for his assistants, so you're insinuation that Leavitt was some how hoarding money that could have gone to his assistants is kind of (and by kind of, I mean extremely) stupid.
2. Seems like it might be a typo - why wouldn't they just list them all together as UCF then like they did the other three with Jose listed separately? Guess we'll have to wait and see what Greg says.
3. Do any of you actually read before you post things? The original source saying Jose was signing with UCF today was another UCF signee. He never faxed anything, and it explains why the initial report might have been inaccurate.
4. Please don't clog up this board with threads about players not signing with USF.
5. It's always fun to speculate like that. Let's hope you're right and Holtz can do some good thing for USF in the next two years. The rest of your stuff is just bitterness because Miami put a beat down on you. If Holtz does not win the Big East in two years, this thread will be here for you to enjoy with your crow. Hopefully we will win the BE, so all of you Leavitt apologists will also be eating a pretty healthy serving of crow... Did I miss the point where Brad predicted USF would not win the Big East? I'm sure Brad would be absolutely ecstatic to see Skip Holtz lead USF to a Big East title. That won't suddenly make the university's handling of this mess professional or Joel Miller's behavior appropriate (or Leavitt's, for that matter). The only reason conference titles are relevant to this particular thread is because the first post said the whole disgraceful ordeal will be justified in the end by conference titles, and that of course is a stupid argument.
6. Community colleges help get a kid an education. He can go to one just like any other student who doesn't get admitted and work hard there to get another chance. Your thoughts about USF's role in this are ass backwards. Yeah, what a hilarious thing to say. USF won't admit unqualified students, so the university will "will always be a second rate school." In other news, candy will always taste disgusting because the makers won't include ingredients that taste like ****.
7. if they can play----- sure Had this been Ryne Giddens at least half of these posts would change instantly... If Giddens were such a bad student that he couldn't get admitted to USF, people would not have been as excited about his signing. You don't know **** about Thornton's work ethic as a student. You don't know anything about him in the classroom. And yet you are more qualified than the athletic committee to decide if he deserves a chance at USF or not. Greg said in a post earlier in this thread that Thornton dropped out of the military academy as soon as he got his GPA up to the NCAA minimum, electing not to stay there through the spring. Doesn't sound like a very dedicated student to me. Being a good football player doesn't change that. So tell me what you're afraid will happen with the next recruit in his position? He'll decide he's a terrible student, so USF isn't the school for him? Is that really what you're afraid of? Because that's the only way I see USF losing a recruit because of this, and that's a recruit I don't feel so bad about losing.
8. Only in the eyes of academically questionable recruits. The only recruit who would be impacted by this is a recruit who doesn't think he can be accepted to USF. That recruit doesn't do the team much good anyway. Before I condemn the committee for rejecting Thornton, I'd like to know: What was Thornton's GPA? His SAT or ACT score? Were there any teachers willing to defend him as a hard-working and making progress? We don't know any of this, or at least it hasn't been reported by Greg Auman or Brett McMurphy. All we know is he cleared the NCAA standards - barely, apparently - and that isn't saying much. And even though no less an authority (ahem) than Brett McMurphy seems to think Thornton is blameless in this, I don't understand why so many people are overlooking the fact that this guy was such a bad student that meeting the lowered academic standard to which athletes are held was even questionable. I know academically questionable athletes are going to see the field on any decent FBS team, but that doesn't mean fans have to act indignant when other academically questionable athletes are rejected. It's not Jim Leavitt's fault Khyri Thornton is apparently a terrible student, or at least was judged to be by the committee USF appoints to make those calls. I mean, seriously - do those of you getting outraged *remember* when Nick Saban made the comments he did? Did you like it when he said what he did? Does this sound like a committed student? A guy who gets his GPA up to the minimum then sees no need to go any further? Perhaps he just couldn't afford it, but we don't know until we hear it from his mouth. If this is the kind of athlete we are going to miss out on, let someone else have him. It would have been great if it worked out, but I see no reason to believe USF suffered any serious loss in this situation.
9. This!!!! It's fine if you aren't going to let a kid in, but when you extend a kid a schollie, he clears the NCAA and then your own academic board then pulls it? Makes us look like a bunch of MORONS! I'd say it makes *him* look like a moron. USF isn't exactly a difficult school to gain admission to. What are you afraid the next recruit in his position will think? "Man, I'm a really, really bad student. Maybe I shouldn't go to USF." OK, bye! I don't even know what this means. I love this kind of self-glorifying nonsense. Whatever recruitment process you went through is irrelevant. Probably nobody. Remember Leavitt signed more than the allowed number of players because he thought some would not qualify. You seem to assume the coaches assured this kid he would be admitted to USF. I don't know why you assume that. The coaches have nothing to do with admissions (and that's a good thing). Maybe the player didn't live up to his promise to get admitted to USF...
10. This is so off-base it's amazing. First of all, "most of our highest rated recruits" from this past class will be with the team come fall. Second, how can you blast the school for maintaining a (slightly) higher standard for its athletes than is necessary? I don't see how this kid's failure to get admitted into USF can be seen as a black mark on Jim Leavitt. That it was a question at all whether he would be cleared by the NCAA is alarming enough.
11. Losses by Texas, Alabama, Penn State or Oklahoma probably wouldn't be enough to push us past those teams. Losses by Florida or Oklahoma State would be toss-ups as far as whether or not we pass them.
12. Do you boys have anything at all figured out? Yes, their is a difference in having a good team and having a good program. In order to proclaim having a good program you must at least hoist 1 conference trophy before claiming to be part of the big 3. That is all. : Congrats on being the tallest midget. Until we all start hoisting trophies and championships we all = FIU/FAU/JU/etc. Facts are facts and rankings are nothing. No one remembers them.* FAU, like UCF, has a conference title to its credit. So UCF and FAU are equal in stature, correct? (Incidentally, the two teams have the same number of wins over USF - though FAU hasn't had as many opportunities as UCF has.)
13. Nothing against Blackwell, but Grothe plus anyone makes for the best two-deep USF has ever seen.
14. I live like 45 minutes north of Austin, VERY close to the area Doug is describing.
15. Sorry to hear that. Keep your head up though. Funniest. Post. Ever.
16. Notice this was printed in the Florida Today. I'm sure they just misspelled it when they printed his column.
17. It doesn't stop you from putting "I bleed green and gold" below your cute little picture there. You keep supporting them. Get off your high horse you ******* hypocrite.
18. Ha that ****'s hilarious. You really think he's the only player to put on a Bulls uniform whose ever smoked a little weed? If so, you're pretty ******* naive. I never said that he was the only one. I know that others probably have. I look down on them for that, but until it comes out who exactly I can't judge. The fact is that C4 is now in trouble again. Why should we be giving these guys a break? What message does it send? "It's ok to smoke pot and break the law, as long as you play football". You think John Doe would get any second chances or have the charges dropped? No. 1) He was never convicted. Why do you arbitrarily pick this kid to hold his questionable activities against him? (The answer is because you enjoy standing on that soapbox next to your computer.) 2) Yes, "John Doe" would get a second chance. I've been there in person to see it happen. I know many people who have been caught drinking underage, or in the same room as some drugs (what Hill was accused of) and the officer realized they didn't have to be a **** and just let the person go. Should anyone who has ever drank underage be kicked out of USF? It's just as illegal. 3) So I'm assuming you want the guys who were suspended to start last season kicked off the team for good?
19. Ha that ****'s hilarious. You really think he's the only player to put on a Bulls uniform whose ever smoked a little weed? If so, you're pretty ******* naive.
20. Why travel to effigy, do it in Tampa (joking of course) We would have to see why the team did not breakout, if we get hit with injury bug hard it makes it hard to slam coaching staff real hard. That didn't seem to stop the DS's from repeatedly slamming CRM. As soon as McCullum puts together a handful of very good seasons like Leavitt has, he will earn the luxury of being given the benefit of the doubt. In the meantime, it's just one lame excuse after another for why he can't win.
21. The difference between the two is, Fernandez puts a team on the floor that's actually worth watching most nights. Unlike McCullum, the lack of interest in Fernandez's team is due to circumstances outside his control. McCullum just can't coach.
22. Funny how when they defend McCullum (by, basically, saying how bad the team is), the people in ESPN are professionals, but when they misprounounce a football player's name or don't have the proper helmet for Gameday they obviously don't know a **** thing about anything. Sooner or later, McCullum has to be responsible for a depleted roster. He's been here for four ******* years now. Good coaches don't collapse on acocunt of injuries or whatever, they just shut the **** up and win. Funny how year after year he gets the same excuses made on his behalf. If wanting a bad coach gone means I'm a bad fan, then **** it, this team doesn't deserve good fans. I support the team by wanting a real coach on the sidelines. Thats not the same as wanting to lose. In fact, it's pretty much the exact opposite.
