  1. Because one might have had a better view of the play than others. I don't know what you're suggesting, but if it's that the refs shouldn't be allowed to get together and discuss what exactly happened, it's not a good suggestion. I'm guessing, but don't know for sure, that the ultimate authority to determine what the call on the field is belongs to the referee, but he has to have input from the other officials. Otherwise, what purpose do they serve?
  2. Well if you're stubborn enough to just insist there were no good plays made by the defense, it's not hard to understand why. It's possible to both be really disappointed with a loss AND not think that every single thing about every single facet of the team absolutely sucks. The pass defense sucked big time, especially in the second half, and it plus an inept short passing attack cost USF the game. What is gained by adding more hyperbole onto that fact? Does it make you feel better?
  3. Plus Petrino did the same at Louisville - held them hostage for a fat extension, then bolted the next year anyway. Petrino has had three straight high-profile gigs, and hasn't left any of them on good terms. Fans will always be upset when a successful coach bails for another job, but Petrino also pissed off and/or seriously disappointed administrators, media, players ... basically everyone associated with each of his previous jobs. Saban can't compare. But it's moot because USF wouldn't hire him even if Holtz were going to be out of here. And I doubt Petrino's next gig will be a head coaching job, but worse people have gotten a greater number of chances I suppose. Maybe.
  4. I thought the same thing live. Shocked they didn't flag us for that hit. Our best defensive play all night was the yellow flag from the refs. On passing plays, sure. The run defense was pretty good, especially in the second half, save for the clinching touchdown. There were some nice tackles for loss.
  5. Giddins so far has to be on the very short list for most disappointing career at USF. He still has the rest of this year and then next year to do something, but he hasn't come anywhere near living up to expectations. Probably the most celebrated high school recruit USF has signed to date. I really hope he can figure it out and make some sort of mark here.
  6. If you watched the game, it clearly was negated the call was that it wasn't a fumble. They specifically went to the booth to review this specific point. Aside from that, the penalty was running into the kicker against Rutgers. Why would a penalty against Rutgers negate a USF touchdown? Makes no sense.
  7. Yeah, this is true, I thought they had different rules but just looked it up.
  8. In college, if the punt returner never has possession, it is a muff and not a fumble, and it is down wherever it is recovered if the kicking team gets it. In the NFL, there is no such distinction, and it's a live ball. Had the returner gotten possession then lost it, it would have been a fumble and a live ball. I thought it was the right call by the refs.
  9. So which is it? Do you know the team was never likely to go undefeated, or is the first loss of the year worth flipping the **** out over in incredibly over-the-top fashion? It can't be both. If you knew the team was never going to go undefeated, then you knew they would lose eventually, even to a team that you thought they could have beaten. That's just how it goes. Wait until the team has lost five games before acting like the team has lost five games. Last season was a big disappointment. There can be no doubt. But Holtz built a winner at East Carolina and has time to try and improve this season after this poor performance. Is it likely to happen? Well, he's not going to be fired tomorrow, so everyone hurling nonsense around might at well chill the **** out and wait and see what happens.
  10. lol this yeah optimismsucks! We should expect to finish in the bottom of a big East every year! So the only two things it is possible to expect are an undefeated season or last in the Big East? Come on, you can't be that clueless. You are being intentionally dense.
  11. I agree it's hilarious ... for us. Because he's such an idiot. He should be embarrassed, though I doubt he is. Because he's such an idiot.
  12. Wait, let me get this straight ... there is somebody who heard this and thought it was GOOD? That this is the way someone SHOULD act? The guy is a raving, brain-dead lunatic. Pass.
  13. No one seems to have had higher expectations than you. He's just craving attention.
  14. Based on what? Also, not being shocked the team lost a game isn't the same as saying you expect a losing season. The team was never going to go undefeated, and that's about it.
  15. Do you actually watch college football? Pitt is terrible. There is no reason to assume losing to Rutgers means the team can't beat Pitt. Same with Miami. And USF will beat Ball State.
  16. Well there were *actually* people (a small minority, granted) on this board arguing that it was ridiculous to not expect the team to go undefeated. Someone ACTUALLY said that. Clearly there are some real idiots here. Thankfully, I think they are a very small minority, they just also happen to be the loudest, most obnoxious, and most attention-starved.
  17. Again, let's try answering the question. "I only enjoy discussing USF football when the team is losing because..." "I shout and whine and cry when the team is losing to draw attention to myself, but don't bother to discuss things when the team wins because..."
  18. Was one thread saying this exact same thing from you just not enough or something? Did you not get enough attention as a child?
  19. You're not answering the question. Why couldn't you shut up during the game, but were nowhere to be found afterward until the team lost?
  20. Though I do have to give myself some credit, I correctly predicted Cpa_bull's (obvious) return:
  21. It's really amazing. During the whole Nevada game until there was about 5 minutes left, you couldn't shut up. You couldn't stop telling us how terrible the team is. Then the comeback starts, and you are silent. The aftermath of perhaps the most impressive, memorable comeback in team history, and you aren't interested in discussing it. Now the team loses again, and here you are. Why? Why do you only bother discussing USF when they lose? Is the team winning that unbearable to you that you can't stand to be around when people are enjoying it?
  22. Cpa_bull has joined us in the chat now that the team is losing again, true to form! What a loser. Let's see if he sticks around should the team comeback and win this time.
  23. No, that was just dirty. He should be ashamed of that play.
  24. Thinking USF is capable of winning each game is totally different from sitting here in September and saying you expect the team to be undefeated the first week of January. The latter is just an absurd expectation, to the highest degree. I don't think USF can't beat Rutgers, or any other Big East team. But I also think the opposite is true: Any one of those teams is also capable of beating USF. And one or two of them (at least) will. That's just common sense. It's not about avoiding disappointment, it's about not having your head up your ass.
