  1. Yeah, I know the Glazers don't own the stadium. Sorry, I probably could've worded it better so it could be more clear. I meant "ownership" as in team ownership, not stadium ownership. The Glazers used the leverage of threatening to move the Bucs so local government feared that would be more costly and therefore gave them the favorable deal.
  2. This is actually a very standard arrangement for owning and managing a sports venue/facility. The ownership almost always receives most or all of tenant/event rent and a percentage from parking and concessions revenue. As far as the renovations issue goes, that's more the fault of the local government for entering into a disfavorable contract agreement that adversely affects its constituency. Additionally, this is completely out of USF's hands.
  3. Yeah, I hear, rather than go all the way over there, the team will just head out to Lake Thonotossassa and CWT will walk across it to inspire them ....<rolling eyes> Really? I heard CWT was going to part Lake Thonotosassa and have the team practice on the lake bed... Perhaps he'll do both...
  4. I think a huge factor was the weather. Usually every time Gasparilla come around, the weather is overcast, cold and/or rainy. When it's sunny and 75 outside, Gasparilla is hard to compete with, especially if you're a student.
  5. Good article. I knew they were fairly close, just not that close! I think the connection will bode well for us.
  6. Friday September 28, 2007...Raymond James Stadium.............The college game feel doesn't get any better than that!! WRONG!! Go to an FSUvsUF game in Tally or Gainesville, go to a FSU vs UM game in Tally. The atmosphere is OK at Ray Jay, I had a blast tailgating in the BB lot this past season, but to say that the night of the WVU game doesn't get any better is just flat out wrong. I agree. I've been on the field and in the stands at USF games and FSU games (and in the stands at UF games) and unfortunately for us we haven't gotten to the level of UF and FSU in terms of atmosphere. Miami games were a lot of fun in the Orange Bowl in the late 90s/early 2000s, but of course not the case anymore. We'll get there one of these days, though!
  7. While they haven't had much on-field success, Schnellenberger did a good job of cultivating local support from the program's inception. Their coaching staff didn't have to work out of trailers like ours did for eight years. And, don't forget, it's in Boca Raton...lots of $$$ there. Most of the money (44.6 million) is being financed. The university kicked in $20 million from non-academic sources, such as concessions and parking revenue. True, as far as the stadium is concerned. I was actually speaking in more general terms for their program though.

  9. Not entirely true. I didn't say we haven't had any success the last three years. I said we've been descending/regressing and CJL's been ascending/progressing. Here, let me outline it: 2010: USF has quality wins over Rutgers, Louisville and Miami and wins the Meineke Car Care Bowl. Record is 8-5. GOOD YEAR OVERALL. Jim Leavitt is out of a job and in litigation. BAD YEAR OVERALL. 2011: USF has one quality win over Notre Dame. USF doesn't make bowl and has its third losing season. Record is 5-7. SUB-PAR YEAR OVERALL. Jim Leavitt is hired by San Francisco, which makes it to the NFC Championship game. DECENT YEAR OVERALL. 2012: USF has zero quality wins, doesn't make bowl and has its fourth losing season. Coach loses job and USF is in crumbling conference. Record is 3-9. AWFUL YEAR OVERALL. Jim Leavitt's linebacking corps has three all-pros and team is headed to the Super Bowl. May win Super Bowl ring. GREAT YEAR OVERALL. And I didn't say USF didn't go down hill. There were historic wins during Holtz term year one and the beginning of year two and then the slide started. People want to remember Holtz as a total failure, he wasn't. There were bright parts of his time at USF. No clue why you're face palming there. What he said was true whether the haters want to admit it or not ... I face-palmed because: 1) All I said is that we have descended while Leavitt has ascended, and later outlined that. 2) Slick disagreed, saying we have had successes during Holtz's tenure which swayed from my premise. 3) I never indicated that we haven't had early successes during Holtz's tenure. We certainly did. 4) Slick obstinantly reiterates what he said before, which again had nothing to do with my descend/ascend post.

  11. Here are some possibilities haha: And a link: http://memegenerator.net/instance/33765008
  12. That wasn't the assertion...at all. The assertion was that Leavitt's teams often shot themselves in the foot with penalties. Was among the top penalized teams in college Division 1. Where did Nicholas go to school? Who was his coach? Where was his coach during the Falcon's game? Those were the only assertions I made and to imply that I meant that Nicholas was the reason USF was the most penalized D1 team is absurd. I said it must have been deja vu for Leavitt. It obviously was a both a just call and most inopportune time regardless if a SF player did the same thing later and wasn't penalized. I got what you were saying until you threw in the following post making a link between Nicholas being on the team and us being the worst in the nation in penalties. Just curious, but why make that link if you weren't making that assertion? Not sure why you're seemingly anti-Nicholas and anti-Leavitt, but no worries... 2003, Nicholas's freshman year. USF, first in the nation with the most penalties. I don't know how anyone could forget all the penalties from back then. Who gets the first huge penalty, a personal foul, for the Falcons? A former Bull. With his college coach sitting on the other sideline. That is all I am saying, silly or not.

  14. Easy call for me. I hate the Patriots and I went to high school with a certain 49ers RB, so its always nostaligic to watch the niners play. Ah, so you went to Gables? I remember watching Gore in high school and he was amazing...he had everything. Willis McGahee at Central and Corey Kinsey at Palmetto were down there around that time too. Late 90's/early 2000s was an incredible period for south Florida running backs.
  15. I'd be happier if the 49ers won, but also wouldn't be devastated if the Ravens won.
  16. What's unfortunate about this is, since Leavitt was fired, his career has been ascending and our program has been descending. Hopefully we can get back up from our fall too!
  17. The assertion that Nicholas was solely responsible for our high level of penalties while he was at USF and/or responsible for the outcome of yesterday's game is absurd. As for the latter, first off I think it was a bad call, since they were both scuffling. Second, keep in mind that was in the first half when the Falcons had the opportunity to adjust thereafter, but didn't. Nicholas was one of our best defensive players ever. You might want to remember that.
  18. Yeah, very likely. Willis was already a great linebacker before Leavitt got there but he helped make the linebacking corps better as a whole. I still think he has a shot at returning to the college ranks as a head coach.
  19. Nicholas was a little overly aggressive but they were BOTH tangled up and going at it. I thought it was a bad call. You may have forgotten, but Nicholas was a **** good player for USF.
  20. And if they win, he can come back to USF and tell the administration..."Kiss the ring, *****." Ha ha.
  21. He was either incredibly naive and stupid or an incredible liar. I choose to believe the latter. There's too many holes in this story for me to think he was catfished. I do think there's some merit to the assertion that he's a closeted bi/gay Mormon football player at a very religious university and that he was using this as a cover. When family, friends and teammates started asking too many questions, he had to kill off the cover.
  22. The plaintiffs must be hoping that the NCAA will try to settle and drop/lighten some of the more punitive measures of the sanctions - namely the fines - but I still don't see this happening. First off, since Penn State is obviously a member institution of the NCAA, they are under contract to abide by both the rules and regulations of the NCAA and any rulings made on behalf of the NCAA for any misconduct conducted. Second, it's not as though the sanctions were forced on Penn State and they appealed; they agreed to them. Third, if the crux of the plaintiff's case is where the NCAA is allocating the fine money, it's going to be very difficult for the State of Pennsylvania to prove that the NCAA doesn't have any control over that. Sorry, but I doubt this suit will go anywhere.
  23. How long before Manti Te'o is on Oprah too?
