Found Our Running Dynamite

It seems like Ponton needed Hall in order to maximize his potential. When Ponton ran on the downs that Hall sat out, he looked real good to me. When Hall graduated, I thought, "Well, that is OK -- we have Ponton who will develop into a back close to Hall's talent". That didn't happen and I think the suspension gave him an attitude that will never allow him to live up to his potential. Remember -- he did have a 100 yard game. But has really disappointed otherwise. It is imperative that we have a good running game or Matt will not make the season. He will have a target on him from game one due to his injury and the lack of depth at QB and RB. The kid is awesome and is and will be a part of USF history, but he can't take the hits that come with being the only running game we have.

Yeah, I sit in 114 and would love to have no visiting fans in it.  For the price, I would say it is the best value.  Home team side, shade, and good mix of loud, but considerate people.

Sorry, but I don't buy it. They showed their butts on television. White and Slaton couldn't have run in that game even if they had put rollerblades on. Getting embarrassed at home by the lowly Bulls? Right -- that didn't hurt. Sure, the thing with L'ville is bigger for them, but we shamed them. BTW, I love having these games on DVD -- I watch one every week and last week was this one.

That's going to happen. But someday...

Shoot, just this kind of talk is getting me excited for the new season! Can't wait. Just think -- some day season tickets to a Bulls game will be passed on from parents to children because that is the only way to get them! Glad we got ours now!

Section 114, row z seats 1&2

I am sorry my university did so poorly. But I really don't care for basketball as a sport, so it hasn't ruined my winter. I watch a DVD of one of our football games from last season, play my NCAA '07 and wait for September. If Mac has to go, so be it. Basketball is not the sport which will put you on the map in Florida, anyway. This is a football state.

This is what I have been explaining to people at work. Of course, Lakeland is very USF friendly, so it isn't a challenge. What the challenge is -- I have been preaching to Gator fans that they have the opportunity to be charter USF fans instead of "me too" Gator fans. USF is the home team, they are good, they are making history, creating a legacy (or a legend, as you put it). I can only attribute the need to be seen as a gator as a pretentious deep need for affiliation and acceptance. After all, most gator fans never even took a class from the institution or even lived close to it. But instead of cheering for the home team or the school their kids or other relatives attended, they have to deck themselves out in the loudest outfits of orange and blue. They couldn't tell you how to get to the stadium, but by God, they are gators! My hats off to all of us who believed enough to invest our emotions, time, and funds into a dream. That investment is paying off. Now, to offer that dream to others...

This is great news. He is putting USF on the radar of many schools and sportswriters. He will be a legend here.

OK, here comes the controversy. Bring in teams that people want to see us play against and you will raise the attendance. FAMU, UCF, WV were good draws. Even though FAMU and UCF are not big names, there is local interest. But Elon and Wofford? I don't think so. There are two parts to putting a product on the field. Winning and winning against a worthy opponent. Actually, winning against an opponent that people expect you to lose to. That causes people to want to see it. Winning consistently against opponents that no one has heard of or cares about doesn't generate interest. We are going to get NC, Kansas, and Miami here. These are the names we need to get more of. I have no doubt that we will. I know that we are just building a history of winning with small names because we are young and that is good. But it will not generate butts in the seats. The big names will.

UCFanatic, I think you made my point. The bartender was obviously not football knowledgeable and after educating him he could see the difference. Educating people is a good thing. And when one educates another to the point that the student gets excited about the subject -- well, that's a beautiful thing. I was dispelling a myth -- and using facts to do it. Right -- to Florida college football ignorant people, our programs seem the same. To those who know Florida college football, they are miles apart. And there is now one more aware of the difference. And he lives in Orlando.

The office Gator fan showed me that in the Ledger this morning. She is quickly becoming impressed. She should be -- she never took the first class at UF (or USF) and I keep telling her that USF is the Home Team for Lakeland. Really, she is not too obnoxious for a Gator Fan. I was in Orlando for a conference last weekend through this wednesday. At the Bar in a Marriot, the bartender mentioned my USF shirt and said that UCF and USf are about the same, huh? By the time I got through educating him as to our achievements, he was psyched for us. Making fans all over. We just have to promote. Soon we will have 60,000 fans at the games all swearing they have never missed one! ;D

What we need is NEWS on it. The interest, as you say, is there.

Randy, I'll be at the FPELRA conference in Orlando so I can't show for this one. Also, we will need something after the nineth, as ET will not be coming into town until after then. So, your function and Flip's wouldn't interfere with each other's. It would be a good thing if those wanting a function in Lakeland were already a member of the Lakeland Alumni Chapter (if they aren't already). Although I live too far away to be an active member (Me and Big Tipp hold down the North Territories), I have attended one of their functions and they are a great group of people in what is quickly becoming a Bulls town.

Now THAT is a commute!! I have cruise control. I sleep most of the way.

I'm not sure that we really need to be hated in order to be considered successful. Sounds amateurish. Just win. Period. Proclaiming rivalries is so artificial. They either develop or not. You can't make the pretty girl like you no matter how much you aggravate her.
