  1. The Sun Dome is operated by Sun Dome, Inc. which is a nonprofit corporation in essence controlled by the University, with a University address, et cetera, but technically separate from the University.
  2. How early does the ticket office open on game day for us to get our regular lower section seats? I've always shown up minutes beforehand, so an actually competitive nature of getting tickets is a little strange to me. But I'm on campus all day Wednesday, so I can get over there whenever I need to.
  3. It's a good point, though, tickets for USF basketball should be $7 or less.
  4. I meant I would miss them in between now and next year :-)
  5. I saw her after the game, she seemed okay. It looks like she just took a nasty hit to the skull. Probably a concussion, but nothing permanent, hopefully. It was indeed a great team performance, though the middle part of the 2nd half was a bit weak. A fun way to send the team out, at least. I'm going to miss this team.
  6. Wait, we can go pick up our student tickets already?
  7. RayJay isn't our home field. It's just where we play our home games. No stadium that belongs to someone else and features their markings, etc is a "home field." ND would be renting the place just like we rent it.
  8. Heh, I left at the same time katieusf did. Was anyone else there? I've still not met any of you folks.
  9. I would go if they pull the Nashville location. Anything else is an awfully large expenditure for a poor grad student. Nashville, for what it's worth, is the perfect NCAA tournament locale. Last year's men's tournament was a phenomenal experience there. Imagine if the Forum was in the middle of 7th in Ybor and surrounded by hotels, and you'll get a pretty good idea of the Gaylord Center is situated in Nashville.
  10. I have been really disappointed by the women's crowds this year, considering how good the team is (and how bad the men are). You guys know there are cheerleaders and SunDolls at the women's games, right?
  11. I have to give the Boreacle credit. They've really stepped things up from time to time this year. A good group of kids decided they were going to put the time in necessary to get some things really happening. So kudos to them.
  12. There was some terrible thing that happened up in our department offices some years ago, too. I don't know the details, but I guess it was pretty gruesome and it's why we keep a lot of the doors and hallways locked now.
  13. Wow. That's unfortunate. Even more unfortunate is that this has happened before. Scary. :-/
  14. Clark: Thank you for the thorough response. I guess my issue is that I can hold a student ticket, good for a lower bowl seat to begin with, but can't sit in the wealth of empty seats behind, say, the other basket. I understand the policy, but perhaps the policy ought to be changed to allow for relocating after the half, for example. gurlybull: Right on. Of course, there is an ideal solution to the ticketing structure, but that might be asking too much to implement.
  15. The Sun Dome staff strikes again!!! Seriously, I have been to college basketball games all over this great nation and have never seen the kind of antagonistic approach to fans that exists at the Sun Dome.
  16. ...and have really been on their game lately. The cheerleaders too. Kudos, ladies and gentlemen. That having been said, here's my reactions, 24 hours out. A. The Sun Dome staff really need to realize that it makes for a better environment to have people in the seats closer to the court. I am really getting tired of ushers telling me I have to sit elsewhere when there are dozens upon dozens of empty seats in the lower bowl, and it's halftime. B. I'm really worried this team's hung it up. They didn't have the passion I'd seen earlier against teams like WVU or 'Nova. C. CJL was at the game. It was nice to see him there, and to be able to congratulate him briefly on a good recruiting season. Anthony Henry was also at the game; as a lifelong Browns fan, that was kind of cool. Though I'd like to have met him, too. D. The constant time out promotions are really, really hokey and fairly unprofessional. Did you see the guy who airballed three straight free throws? E. Again, kudos to the lovely ladies of the Sun Dolls. Any of them who are single are welcome to contact me. I'm cute! Oh, and it sucks about the weather, because I'd planned to have beers and hot dogs available for y'all in the parking lot. Instead we had to have a private happy hour inside the office.
  17. I can attest to a crazy amount of student apathy here. The vast majority of my students not only cannot name more than one member of either the basketball or football teams, but actually have animosity toward the athletic department for wasting their money. I'm pretty sure it's the commuter nature of our university; people see us as a machine they put money into and get a degree back from. That's not an issue for the athletic dept. to deal with, it's one for admissions to deal with.
  18. DEPAUL @ USF (-1.5) The money men must really think DePaul is bad. For the record, I agree, and predict tonight as our first of three Big East wins. I'll be there, tailgating, with some of the other grad students. Come say hi if you like!
  19. Paint. PAINT. THE OUTSIDE. It looks truly horrible.
  20. I was going to make this post but I see I've been beaten to it. Here's some observations: 1. There were times when the (lame, bandwagon) 'Nova fans were louder than Bulls fans. That simply cannot ever be allowed to happen again in the Big East in a sport where home court advantage is a larger factor than in any other. With a minute left, 'Nova had the ball and a two point lead. Everywhere I looked, Bulls fans were sitting on their hands. A family behind me yelled at me to sit down. The only noise from my section was some guy with his kid yelling "THEY'RE GONNA KILL THE CLOCK! THEY'RE GONNA KILL THE CLOCK! FOUL! FOUL!" I feel bad; he must have just been brought back from a coma into which he fell sometime before 1985's introduction of the shot clock. The students were FANTASTIC. The Beef Studs were great. The rest of the crowd: totally and unequivocally pathetic. That place should have been deafening in the last two minutes of that game, and it simply wasn't. 2. The cheerleaders and Sun Dolls were on their game last night. Everyone looked fantastic and had their **** together. Nice job, kiddos. 3. Asking Holmes to make a buzzer-beater when he's the nation's leader in MPG is asking a LOT. Even if he rode the bench more than he's used to last night.
  21. You're right, I was so dazzled by the play I forgot who made it. Hahaha.
  22. If you all missed the game (in person or otherwise) you missed one of the greatest plays I've seen in a basketball game -- men, women, on television, or in person. I was fortunate to see this one in person. With about 3:00 left in the game, Jessica Dickson stole the ball at midcourt and headed into a 1-on-2 situation. Driving from the right side of the basket, she went straight toward the nearest defender, then in mid-air went behind her back with the basketball to lay it in with the left hand. The entire Sun Dome made this "WHOAHHHHHH" sound. It happened right in front of me (front row behind the basket) so I saw it develop as well as anybody. I wish women's basketball got more attention of only for plays like this, which really deserve more attention. We pretty much laid an egg last night, but we got the win that we should have gotten, and that's the only statistic that matters.
  23. You should not have to have the very basic Champion college sweatshirt custom-made. They should be in every single bookstore and establishment. You can go to downtown Oxford or Athens and find them in every store, right up front. What is the most embarassing is that I went to Steve & Barry's and found very nice clothes for schools like Robert Morris or Xavier but only a small handful of USF gear, all of it horrendously ugly. Where are the stores that sell five for $10 college shirts like any other campus? It really can only be explained if there's some hitch in the licensing process, and that's why all our USF gear sucks. (For the record, I know that those sweatshirts were made once upon a time, though curiously lacking the word "of." My roommate's simply reads "University South Florida" which is fine by me, and I would borrow it except she's a girl, and it smells like girl. I don't want to smell like girl."
  24. I have been saying this for two years. I think there simply must be some hitch in the licensing process, as the very "typical" college apparel you can find for every other college or university in the USA is entirely impossible to find. I have been to every book store, every shop at every mall, the new Bulls Heaven, everything. I am to this day unable to find the iconic "college sweatshirt," that is to say, a grey heather sweatshirt with the block letters, UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH FLORIDA. The closest approximation sold at the bookstore includes the hideously ugly college seal, which communicates entirely nothing except aesthetic disaster. In general, the USF merch I've found is far more complicated and fancy than typical college gear. Whenever I come across the more plain items I buy them, but that doesn't happen very often. Again, there simply must be something happening in the licensing process as I've found it phenomenally peculiar.
