I’ve been sitting in supply chain meetings for the past month (today I was in Orlando for them). There are still supply chain issues in construction. On a different note, I got to spend an hour with Wayne Gretzky for a Q and A session.

I’m still upset about the 2020 election… however life moves on either way. FSU was a shell of itself without Travis. That’s the reality of it. They struggled against UF. UF is terrible like Biden. That sums it up for me.

They didn’t look like a good team yesterday - and Louisville really isn’t a good team. Louisville is getting better though after coming into the season with low expectations around their roster.

FSU doesn’t pass the eye test without their QB. Their defense is excellent, however people don’t want to watch Michigan-Iowa again. Standing by the four teams I believe pass the eye test. If Georgia plays FSU in a New Years bowl, they will roll FSU.

FSU will be left out with UGA. UM will be the #1 seed. UW will be the #2 seed. UT will be the #3 seed. Alabama will be the #4 seed. My take - UW plays Alabama for the National Championship. Best playoff yet from a competitive standpoint.

The design-build agreement for the new University of South Florida football stadium has been terminated. USF, which entered into the agreement in March, plans to replace Michigan-based Barton Malow and hire a different construction management firm, according to a document signed by USF’s procurement office on Nov. 28. The news, first reported by a Twitter fan account, was confirmed by the university to the Tampa Bay Business Journal. “USF thanks the Barton Malow team for their significant contributions to date, and the university looks forward to opportunities to work with them again in the future,” the spokesperson said. “The on-campus stadium project continues to move forward, and nothing has changed regarding the cost or the university’s commitment to the project. Part of the discussion will revolve around the implementation of a new construction management model. “The new model will give the university more direct access to all design elements and gives the university more control over cost efficiencies to receive the best value within the project’s budget,” the spokesperson said. USF planned to build the on-campus stadium in time for the 2026 season, with construction scheduled to start in 2024. That plan hasn’t changed, according to the spokesperson. Kansas City-based Populous was the designer in the original contract but will retain its work with USF, according to the single source certification approval document. The company has already completed a “significant” amount of design work. “It is in the university’s best interest to maintain the Populous relationship for timing, continuous work product and knowledge purposes,” Populous wrote. A clause in the design-build agreement gave USF the ability to terminate the deal without penalty before a final price was decided. The design-builder was required to prepare a guaranteed maximum price proposal after 75% of the construction documents were complete, with a notice to proceed to construction due by June 30, 2024. “Either prior to or subsequent to execution of the [guaranteed maximum price] amendment, the owner may, at any time, terminate the agreement for the owner’s convenience and without cause upon 10 days’ written notice,” the agreement said. USF agreed in March to spend up to $22 million on the design phase. It will need to pay Barton Malow and Populous for their services performed prior to the termination, per the terms of the agreement. The university and the Florida Board of Governors have already approved a $200 million loan deal with Truist Bank to help fund the approximately $340 million stadium. The facility, which will also host women’s lacrosse, is expected to have a capacity of about 35,000. Barton Malow didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment. Tampa companies DuCon Construction and RR Simmons were also involved in the design-build agreement. Barr & Barr was USF’s representative. Also on Dec. 5, USF trustees will vote on a $30 million sale of eight broadband service licenses to T-Mobile to help fund the football stadium. That’s $5 million higher than original estimates and slightly lower than what USF would receive in estimated annual lease payments across the next 30 years. The sale would be part of the $140 million portion of the stadium costs not covered by the $200 million loan. Renderings of the new stadium from the design phase haven’t been shared yet.

I’m surprised Atkins was selected to the second team. He was a great player for us, however I wouldn’t place him as the fifth or sixth best receiver in the conference. His stats were great - I just know there are some pretty talented receivers in the AAC that would have put up similar or better stats in a Golesh offense. Hopefully some recruits see a scrappy player like Atkins was able to put up big numbers and will dream about their time under the lights.

Interesting season for sure. We beat one team with a winning record - FAMU. Rice ended up 6-6, similar to us. We’re going to be a heavy underdog in whatever bowl game we make - and my gut says we’ll be on the wrong side of the scoreboard in a similar manner that was experienced vs UTSA. I’d like to play UCF - however they would curb stomp us this year. They are a better team presently. Indifferent to anyone else. Guess we’ll be waiting…

At least CMU was undefeated and predicted to win the MAC. Oh wait…

Time to recruit someone that can shoot the rock.

It's not that ofter where we see USF hoops punish a team by 44. That's a great start to the season. It'll be interesting watching this season play out under new leadership.

I'll be asleep in the second row of the endzone... however I'll be there. I'm in bed by 8:30 PM normally (including weekends). I'm seriously altering my sleep schedule on Thursday night so I'm not at my office next Friday at 2 AM working (maybe I'll use a PTO day). We did have some positive press yesterday. Army was shut out yesterday by Troy at home. Last time they were shut out at home? It was 20-years ago by USF. It was funny sharing that nugget of information with my wife. The onside kick, the sideline banter from FAU, the horns down gestures to our fans, etc., will hopefully light a fire in the asses of the coaching staff and players to leave it all on the field week in and week out. FAU absolutely decimated us and made play after play after play. Seth Greenberg nailed it years ago with the dog and the tree comment. Hopefully Golesh gets this turned back around quickly. It's been a bad two weeks after two weeks of happiness. So is life...

On a different note, we missed on Kiffin years ago because of how our administration holds their noses in the air (reminds me of climate scientists that are in lockstep with the United Nations - unwilling to see their campaign of lies will destroy our economy). Prior to Golesh, I would have personally hired Art Briles if it would put some W's on the board... and I have three daughters. Now even I have my limits... Jerry Sandusky is a no-hire. I'm still onboard with the Golesh hiring. There were moments in the game where we failed to make routine plays yesterday. When those add up, you're bound to get throttled at this level. It sucks an in-state team put a beat down on us like we did to UCF in 2007, however it happened. We need to lick our wounds and get ready next week for Little Sisters of the Poor from the revamped AAC. I have a lot of UTSA fans living in my neighborhood presently. I'm going to the game that Friday night in San Antonio in style - as if we're playing Alabama. I hope we decide to show up that night. The present roller coaster of USF football is much better than the straight plummet we've witnessed since the Strong hiring. We'll get to six wins this season... and maybe a highly unattended bowl game in December. It's better than the last three years either way.
