That is for the polls, and regular rankings. That is where you judge solely on resume. To me, power rankings are when you rank the best teams, top to bottom based on how good they are. I Think Temple should probably be about 6 after looking over it. We will see very soon though

Agreed on an embarrassing defeat, and you're right about that, depth is an issue for them. After waking up this morning, I probably would slide them back to 6. But I still don't think UCF, SMU, or UConn beats them on a neutral field if they play next week. If they did, I would gladly bet a large sum of money on it. (I wouldn't pull a TigerJay and disappear if I lost the bet either)

Yeah, I would pick USF to even cover a 20 point spread. I'm not sure if these betters watch the same game I did, where Wyoming looked physically superior. I don't think that statement has ever been said in the history of football either. NIU had 12 penalties for 106 yards. That is a lot to correct in one week, and they got DESTROYED in the time of possession by over 10 minutes. Towson would probably beat them. This isn't Jordan Lynch's NIU team.

Exactly, and I wanted to move UCF up, because that was a very impressive win, but Tulane looks to have one of the best defenses in the conference, and SMU showed that they can score on anybody just by having Courtland Sutton, and ECU had an all around great performance. I just don't see who they jump. NewEnglandBull says UConn, but UConn showed me that they are physically superior to Maine, and moved the ball with ease, and had a good defense. The rushing totals were 200 for UConn, and 40 for Maine. The score looked worse than it was due to mental lapses by the QB. I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt

That was probably the 3 teams I had the hardest time with judging between was Temple, Memphis, and Tulsa. I took these power rankings based on who I would bet on if they played at a neutral site next week. And I firmly believe that Phillip Walker will wake up, and Jahad Thomas will come back to make the Temple offense click again. I still think they are a 8-9+ win team. Also, Tulsa is beginning to impress me a lot, but Memphis may be awesome again too this year. A lot will be sorted out after week 2

I agree, most of our pressure came off of linebacker blitzes. But the DT's are outstanding in the middle

1. Houston 1-0 - The offense showed tons of depth at WR, RB Duke Catalon may be the best RB in the conference not named Marlon Mack, and QB Greg Ward is an athletic play maker who surprisingly didn't have any rushing yards. After an early surge from OU, the Houston defense showed up in full force, including 5* true freshman recruit Ed Oliver, who already looks like one of the best DTs in the league, LB Steven Taylor picked up where he left off (as the conference's leading sack leader last year), and CB Brandon Wilson (FG return for a TD) may be better than last year's first round pick CB William Jackson. Up Next : Lamar (FCS) 2. USF 1-0 - What a first showing USF put on. Probably the most important thing, is we have come out of fall practice and the first game still healthy, after a game full of possible injury scares. Transfer Valdes-Scantling looks like he could be even better than Rodney Adams, which could be scary for opposing defenses. Also, who else was pleasantly surprised with the elusiveness of Darius Tice? Where has that been his whole career? On the defensive side of the ball, it looks like Nigel Harris losing 15 pounds in the off season has worked in his benefit so far, as he looks to be flying around the field much better. We will see how the lost weight will work against FBS power running teams though. The only concern in my eyes was that QF needs to settle down, and get more accurate. His running and pocket awareness was fantastic. Up Next : NIU 3. Navy 1-0 - Wow, what a performance for QB Tago Smith! He looks like a Keenan Reynolds clone out there, and the offense looks no different. Couple that with 4 fantastic runners, including team captain Toneo Gulley, speedster and return specialist Dishan Romine, FB Chris High, and non other, than the Swain Train's little brother Myles Swain, and this offense may be even better than last year's. Not to mention this team is very disciplined, committing only 2 penalties for 16 yards. This Navy team is arguably the second best in the conference. Up Next: UConn 4. Temple 0-1 - Maybe QB Phillip Walker should get his alter ego PJ to come play the rest of the year, because he did not look like his normal self. Phillip wanted to come into the year with a more serious approach, but in turn, he abandoned a big part of his game, which is his ability to extend the play through his legs. I think this is a very coachable issue, that he will get figured out. Let's also remember that Jahad Thomas was not in this game, and he has always been their game changer on offense. I fully expect Temple to go back to their roots and play hard nosed defense, and get their offense back on track the rest of the season. Up Next: Stony Brook (FCS) 5. Memphis 1-0 This was one of the games I didn't get to see much of, along with the UCF game, so I had a hard time placing Memphis. Between 4-6 sounds about right. But you can see that they jumped out to a 29-0 lead half way through the second quarter, and coasted the rest of the way. It would seem that the whole season will rest on the shoulders of the former Tennessee, then JUCO transfer QB Riley Ferguson. Plenty of play makers around him return to help his transition be a smooth one, so look for Memphis to continue its success on the gridiron. Up Next: Bye, then Week 3 Kansas 6. Tulsa 1-0 My, what a stomping they put on San Jose St. They more than doubled the Spartans offensive yardage production, and held them to 1.7 yards per carry average on 32 carries! Meanwhile, the Golden Hurricane have a formidable triple threat of their own, in QB Dane Evans (last year's conference yardage king), RB Deangelo Brewer (164 yards, 3TDs), and Kevan Lucas (Second most receiving yards in 2014). If they can continue to show some sort of defense, these guys will be the true dark horse in the league race. Up Next: #6 Ohio St 7. Cincinnati 1-0 So the start to the Hayden Moore era didn't start very well. I personally have been on the Hayden Moore bandwagon since last year, but after a terribly rough bowl game, (42-7 loss to San Diego St) and this rough game vs the Sky Hawks, I am surprised Gunner Kiel didn't get a crack at the game at all. In fact, it has been said that freshman Ross Trail is actually the back up right now. At least they have Tion Green and Mike Boone returning at RB right? They averaged 4.5 ypc vs Tennessee Martin, so they will be leaned on heavily if Cincinnati expects to win in conference play. But make no mistake, this is a dangerous team. Up Next: Purdue 8. UConn 1-0 If there is one thing QB Bryant Shirreffs knows how to do, its his weak side spin that he performed at least 4-5 times this game to make a defender miss, and take off running down field. He lead the team with almost 100 rushing yards. If he could just get over his mental lapses during games, whether it is being aware of blind side blitzes, not fumbling, or not being able to find players who are open down field for easy yards. They have the running backs to do it. The defense is ready. This team is waiting on a very capable QB to take the next step. It would not surprise me if this team finds itself half way through the season and goes on a roll. Up Next: Navy 9. East Carolina 1-0 I normally wouldn't get to excited for a team for beating an FCS team, but East Carolina was impressive in beating WCU, the same team that USF struggled against two years ago. ECU faced a huge question mark at QB with Phillip Nelson, and boy did he answer, with 413 passing yards, 52 points, no interceptions, oh, and did I mention the RBs had a 7.2 ypc average? I guess it doesn't take a lot to settle in at QB when you have Isiah Jones at WR, who is an absolute freak athlete, and a couple of times shook opposing DBs to the ground. He amassed 180 yards on 10 catches, a touchdown. Up Next: NC State 10. Tulane 1-0 They covered the 17 point underdog spread against Wake Forest easily, and the defense is every bit as good as advertised. They had a chance in this game, where the score seemed to be 7-3 throughout. But they had plenty of chances in this game. Most notably, electing to go for a 4th and 10 within field goal range with about 5 minutes left in the game with a couple of time outs. Later in the game, they had what was looking to be a miraculous come back drive, but ultimately could not score a TD. Had they been down only 1, they would have had an opportunity to win it. Coulda, woulda, shoulda, I know. But lets focus on the positives here. Tulane out yarded Wake Forest 280-175 (175!). You can tell Willie Fritz is implementing a fantastic hurry up offense that will start to gel once he gets his own guys in there. But if they hope to improve on their win mark this year, QB Glen Cuiellete will need to settle down as a passer, and complete easy throws that he was not hitting during this game. By the way, were those helmets ugly, or what? Up Next: Southern University (FCS) 11. SMU 1-0 Speaking of awesome WR play, Courtland Sutton is the best WR in the league, hands down. I realize they played North Texas, but when your offense revolves around deep jump balls to you, you know that you are a freak of nature. He had 162 yards on only 4 catches, and 3 of them were touchdowns! That is an incredible 40.5 ypc average! Something else that they lacked last year? A real running back. But have no fear! Xavier Jones had 115 yards on only 11 carries. The real unanswered question here is if SMU can play defense, which will be answered this week when they go up against Seth Russell and Baylor, who are known to put up video game numbers. Up Next: Baylor 12. UCF 1-0 Admittedly, this was the other game I didn't get to see much of, but a 38-0 win looks very impressive! So lets take a closer look into the game. One point of emphasis coming into this season was limiting turnovers on offense. Well, Holman didn't throw any INTs, so this is good. Next, they need to get better at running the ball, which is a huge reason they stunk last year. Well, they only had a 3.8 ypc average while fumbling the ball twice. This is going to be a major area of concern going forward, if you can't run on a terrible FCS squad. Defensively, you want to say they improved, pitching a shut out, right? Well props to Shaq Griffin for making a spectacular INT, but SCS committed 13 penalties for 138 yards (yikes!). But there is no denying this team has new energy in it. We will see quickly what that energy translates into next weekend. Up Next: Michigan

Yea, I agree they definitely aren't perfect back there. Their safeties are still suspect and I couldn't tell you who the other CB is. But CB Brandon Wilson (the guy who returned the FG kick for a TD) is the real deal. Another 1st round pick for sure

I am so shocked by how in denial this board is about Houston. I was the only one on this board to confidently say Houston will beat Oklahoma. Everybody said I was crazy and Oklahoma will kill them, because Oklahoma was on 'another level'. You guys all said in the off season that FSU was better last season than Houston despite getting crushed. What do these guys have to do to get respect? These aren't squeaker wins. They are dominating top competition with a balanced team. I'm going to give this board a break. I feel like I am losing brain cells talking to some of you.

Also the main statement I made is that Houston will be tougher for USF than FSU will be. Which there is no argument on that either. Houston is one of the top teams in the country. FSU will not be. Sure this is speculation, but we will all see I guess.

No this is an argument that me and BullDozer had a few weeks ago when he claimed that FSU was better than Houston last year even after Houston pounded them and left no question who was better. Now he is still saying that FSU is better based on nothing.
