I know this is a simplistic view of the biggest 4 scandals lately but I think you will get my point. I will be looking at competitive advantage gained vs. punishment.

1. Penn State - While those involved should be criminally prosecuted and will be in severe trouble when they meet their maker, I see no competitive advantage but they got a 4 year ban and severe reduction in scholarships.

2. Ohio State - Tatoos? Minimal advantage, 2 year ban.

3. Miami - Nevin Shapiro's gifts, naked lady dancing, payments for knocking out opposing players. A big competitive advantage but the corruption was coming from the outside. Not known how much was ignored or sanctioned by those in charge. Seems like mimimal sanctions will come.

4. North Carolina - ah yes. Internal academic fraud which ESPN and others have chosen to ignore. It goes back to the 70's. http://www.newsobser...l#disqus_thread a link for your enjoyment.

It seems like this is the largest competitive advantage ever in that professors were creating bogus classes and handing out good grades to keep athletes eligible. Okay, so the did not get a tatoo or a lapdance but they received grades which they did not even work for (or seemed to be incapable of working for). This is even worse because their fans and alumni look down their noses at most other schools and like to celebrate how they do things the right way, "The Carolina Way". Competitive advantage is as high as I could ever dream of. The punishment appears to be ZERO. Go figure.
