Top USF QB facing misdemeanor charge

Jefferson County High quarterback Carlton Hill, perhaps USF's top football recruit, was charged Tuesday with contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

The misdemeanor charge stems from Hill being caught Feb. 16 having consensual sex in one of the rooms at the high school with a 16-year-old female. His arraignment is March 8.

Hill, 19, has been suspended from the school since the incident.

He was one of two quarterbacks signed with the Bulls. He chose USF over Miami.

A previous article with more info has already been posted in an existing thread:

Recruit faces expulsion

USF quarterback recruit Carlton Hill is expected to face expulsion for having consensual sex with a female student in the school locker room, according to the Jefferson County State Attorney's Office. An official decision will not be made until the county School Board meets March 14.

Hill, 19, is expected to plead innocent to a misdemeanor charge of contributing to the delinquency of a minor at his arraignment, scheduled for March 8.

The parents of the 16-year-old girl asked prosecutors to pursue charges because the incident, while consensual, could lead to her being unable to attend classes this spring at the county's only public high school.

Hill's attorney, David Collins, said the arrest and potential expulsion will not affect Hill's eligibility at USF.

No. Problem. It was on the recruiting board and I just figured that people who didn't see it there should know about it.

Good to know I'm attending an institution that doesn't require its students to have high school diplomas.

That is NOT what HIS Lawyer said.

There is ANOTHER article which states that in the event he was expelled from his current HS [which is uncertain], then he would complete his education at a different HS, but would still be able to GRADUATE.

USF Recruit Charged With Misdemeanor

A Tribune staff, wire report

Published: Feb 24, 2005

TAMPA - Monticello Jefferson County quarterback Carlton Hill, South Florida's top football recruit, was charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor Tuesday.

Hill's misdemeanor charge stems from being caught Feb. 16 having consensual sex in one of the rooms at the high school with a 16-year-old female. Hill's arraignment is March 8.

Since the incident, Hill, 19, has been suspended from school. Sources said Hill's suspension is for 10 days. After that he will be assigned to an ``alternative'' school and can continue working toward his high school graduation.

Jefferson County principal Michael Bryan wouldn't confirm the length of Hill's suspension and referred questions to David Collins, Hill's attorney. Collins refused comment Wednesday.

Jefferson County's school board meets March 14 and at that time county superintendent Phil Barker can decide if further punishment is warranted for Hill, board member Fred Shofner said.

The school board has several options it can take, including reinstating Hill to Jefferson County High School, or expulsion.

``When an incident happens, the principal does an investigation and the superintendent follows up with his investigation,'' Shofner said. ``The superintendent will make a recommendation based on school board policy.

``I don't know what it is or what it will be, but we will weigh the facts and act accordingly.''

Hill and his mother, Christine Ford, declined comment Wednesday.

Why is he 19 and still in high school?  Did he fail a grade?

I do not condone coddling student athletes, even if they have plans to play for USF.  However, I believe that students should have the chance to get an education, even if they have to put this bone-head on house arrest and home-school his a$$.

Hopefully he will learn to keep his willy in his shorts and not become the next Brian Fisher, or even worse, the next Marvin Taylor.

This kid must have been retained twice if he is turning 20 in May.  That proves he has overcome great odds already.  Statistics say the chance of someone graduating who has been retained twice is very low, less less 5% I believe.    He is already proving to be a winner, despite making some foolish decisions.

Sounds like it might take him a while to learn the playbook.......

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."
