Former Gaither RB, after stops at USCe and Louisville, is now apparently headed to USF. Sure hope we vetted this good.

Not sure how this gets around Big East transfer rules, but HS coach says S. Carolina & Louisville RB Jarvis Giles will be at USF this fall.

Perhaps, he plans on walking on. I don't think he can transfer to USF under Big East rules as a scholarship football player.

He changed his FB page to USF.

Checked with Big East office. Jarvis Giles, having attended Louisville, cannot play football at USF. He may transfer there, but can't play.

I just read the BE transfer rulles and there are a couple of exceptions to the rule. One would be if his NLI was ruled "null and void". Don't know what that means but it will be interesting to see how this pans out. The NCAA can also overrule the conference and allow the transfer if it grants a SLR waiver relative to procedural issues.

I have been looking for a while and I am not sure Jarvis ever officially transferred to UL. Their Football roster from February doesn't show him on it. That may be why he is able to transfer. Just a hypothesis, but if it is the case it would explain how he could pull this off.

Perhaps, Giles and his HS coach are just unaware of the Big East rule.

Coach: Giles transferring to USF

Former Tampa Gaither running back Jarvis Giles is transferring to the University of South Florida, according to his high school coach.

Mark Kantor, who coached Giles at Gaither, said Saturday that the former Cowboys standout had informed him of his intentions to transfer to USF in the fall. It will be the third college for Giles, who originally began his career at South Carolina and recently left Louisville. Kantor said Giles would have to sit out the 2011 season per NCAA transfer rules.

Giles rushed for 277 yards as a freshman at South Carolina in 2009, but left the team during the 2010 season and ended up at Louisville. It was reported earlier this month that he was leaving the Cardinals program.

Rivals.com rated Giles a four-star recruit and the nation’s 122nd best prospect overall in the Class of 2009.

He cannot play football here.

UPDATE: A Big East Conference official has confirmed that there are no exceptions to the conference’s policy that states once a student-athlete in football or men’s and women’s basketball attends a member institution that student-athlete cannot transfer to another member institution, directly or indirectly, and be eligible to compete in that sport.

So because Giles attended Louisville, and even though he did not play a down for the Cardinals, he cannot compete for another Big East football program.

Doesn't he have work ethic issues?

I think only as it relates to going to class. Spurrier said of him that he was a delight to have around, they were just too choked up at RB. Haven't seen anything regarding his time at UL, if indeed he attended there.

I believe USF wanted an exception to allow Big East players to transfer to other BE schools in their home state, but that was voted down at the time. If that had passsed, Giles would have been able to play here.
