With that 100 time he should make it to states.

Well, it would have at least got him to the regionals, but he ran it

in a prelimiary and didn't do as well in the finals and missed out.

Jamaul ran a 11.29 in the 100m at FHSAA 3A District 3, placing 5th.

Jamaul ran a PR of 10.96 in the 100m at FHSAA 3A District 3, placing second in the prelims.

Perhaps, he'll continue to run this season and improve on it.

Frankly, I'm more concerned that he improve on the academic track and qualifies for USF.

Though football season has been over for more than two months, Florida prep sports writers released their 4A All-State team on Thursday. Among the names were six players from Columbia High.

Four seniors were named to the team headlined by Jamaal Montague, who earned first-team honors.

Cameron Sweat, Tiger Powell and Brach Bessant each earned third-team honors.

Two juniors were chosen as part of the team. Timmy Jernigan earned first-team honors and Jordan Morris was named to the Honorable Mention team.

“It’s neat,†Columbia coach Craig Howard said. “It’s the same guys that have captured many of our postseason awards since the regular season ended. Of those guys, three of them have signed to play college. Its individuals receiving awards as a result of the team doing well. The four seniors have had great careers and will be missed. They’ll be hard to replace. I’m really proud of the underclassman, and they’ll be back to play. Timmy might be the number one player in the nation according to Rivals.â€

Howard took time out of his schedule to talk about the impact that each of the players has had on the football program.

“Montague led the state in receiving and broke just about every school receiving record we had,†Howard said. “He was the MVP of our team and I only wish we had him for three years instead of one.â€

Howard is excited to have his other first-team player returning next season.

“It looks to me like he might not only be the best player in Columbia County and the state, but he may be the best player in the entire United States of America,†Howard said.

Sweat didn’t spend a long time as quarterback of the Tigers, but he made an immediate impact.

“For a first-year starter, that’s pretty impressive,†Howard noted. “Most of the guys on the list are two or three year starters. For him to be named as a third-team player is pretty incredible.â€

Two players that aren’t new to statewide recognition are Bessant and Powell.

“Brach was an all-state kid last season,†Howard said. “It seems like he’s been playing around here for a long time. He held down the middle linebacker spot. When you say Tiger, you hear Brach, and when you mention Brach, you mention Tiger. Tiger’s been in our lineup since we were a freshman, and he’ll go on to play college ball.â€

Columbia’s only representative across the offensive line was Morris.

“He did nothing but get better at offensive tackle this year,†Howard said. “He’s did an excellent job developing.â€

Now if we can parlay signing them by getting Timmy Jernigan that would be the biggest catch in USF history. I hope he watches the draft and realizes he can fulfill his dreams right here and be with his HS friends and teammates.
