Senior Bowl - Official Weigh-In

Last Updated: January 25, 2010

South Team

Player Name        School          HT    WT   ARM    HAND

Allen, Nate        South Florida  6005   205  30 1/2  9 3/8

Murphy, Jerome South Florida  6003   191  32        8 1/2

Selvie, George    South Florida  6044   247  33 3/4  9 1/4

Should Selvie return to 245?

Comparing highlights over the past three years, GS seemed so much quicker and more flexible in his sophomore and junior seasons. The speed rush that he became know for was essentially non existent in '09. I think the reported weight gain is to blame for his lack of production more recently and I think he may benefit from shedding back to his earlier playing weight.

IMO a lighter selvie could stand up as a 3-4 olb (a la julian peterson) and be a steal for a team in rounds 3-4. He always played the run relatively well with the exception of a ray rice stiff arm or two.

I just had to laugh, since there was just a thread on whether Selvie should slim down to 245 or not.

Guess that thread should have read Should Selvie return to 247?

LOL

On the 2nd day of Senior Bowl practice (first with pads) here is some info on Nate from ESPN's blog:

A pair of defensive backs are looking good early. Both Oklahoma State CB Perrish Cox and South Florida S Nate Allen have been very fluid changing directions so far in drills.

and here is a tidbit on his draft competition:

Drills have not been kind to USC S Taylor Mays, who needs to show he can hold up in coverage this week. He looks stiff and is having trouble opening his hips out of his backpedal during 1-on-1s.

Nate Allen could very well be drafted before Selvie. His stock has been rising daily. He is very bright and makes a good impression both on and off the field.

You'd think Grothe would at least get invited...

Grothe will probably be in better physical shape by USF pro day to try and impress the NFL scouts.

Nice little video from Mel Kiper and Todd McShay on their top 5 guys in the trenches (OL & DL). Both have JPP in the top 5.

Also here is a tidbit about Carlton from their NFL Draft blog. It's about sleeper WR's:

Carlton Mitchell, USF (6-4, 212); Grade: 59 -- Mitchell will have a hard time separating from underneath man coverage until he sharpens his routes, and he body-catches too many balls at this point. He is an underclassman, and another year of college football would have given him an opportunity to improve those areas and, by extension, his draft stock.

However, Mitchell clearly has the physical tools to play in the NFL. He clearly has the best size/speed combination of the three receivers on this list and is at his best stretching the field. He also has the strength and athletic ability to progress as a route runner. Because he is so raw, Mitchell likely will start his career as a subpackage receiver who will provide an occasional vertical threat, but his physical skills give him the potential to become a solid No. 2 receiver at the next level.
