Well  will see how good PJ is next year when there is some competition.

Yes PJ is a good athlete and he does have a strong arm.  That all looks great when you are playing catch.  However, he hasnt shown that he is very effective in a game situation.  An actual situation where timing, decision making, and the knack for making a play are what get the job done.

Well he has moments, but the problem is consistency.  You can't take away that beautiful bomb to Peyton against ECU, or his touch pass to Chambers against TCU.  He can scramble, and the way he bowled over Chris Moore belongs in USF folklore.  You can't say PJ's just a pitch and catch guy because he has done some good things, but sometimes when he does a good thing he has long stretches of bad things.

I have seen a lot of good in PJ's ability.  The problems he has are all coachable.  He's got some noticable hitches in his throwing- a tendency to throw off the back foot, doesn't follow through, bounces, sometimes leans back when throwing.   All that is coachable, a good QB coach can get those kinks right out.   Also, his confidence and esteem are bad.  It seems when he has a bad pass they come in bunches, and when he throws a good pass they come in bunches.  His body language suggests that he loses focus or confidence at times.

Again, PJ's not horrific, and he is capable of improving.  I just don't think Rod Smith is the coach that can get that improvement out of him.

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."
