A post in the blog East Coast Bias does a "what if?" scenario of UMCP going to the Big East. Interestingly enough, our name comes up in a couple of the comments for a potential swap.

I think the article raises some interesting points, but at the end of the day, I think you're right. From where I sit--which is currently in North Carolina and was previously in the state of Maryland--UMCP is the elusive 5th "Tobacco Road" school, and probably has just as much, if not more, camaraderie (and animosity) with UNC, Duke, and State as Wake Forest does two hours down the road.

I'd say it'd be more likely to pull one of the three the exited in the past and thought the grass was greener.  They found out it wasn't.  Besides, I'd rather have VT, Miami, or BC over Maryland.  Any one of those guys comes back and the BE gets stronger, especially if it is VT or Miami.
