good stuff smazz. I dont think he is only one to bet on games. I think Joe Jackson bet on games and is why he is not in HOF. I am sure there are others but they didnt get caught.  My opinion is that Rose hurts integrity of baseball and there is absolutely ZERO room for that. I dont want the questions to come up when errors are made or guys strikeout. Was soriano on the take during post season as he struck out like 65 times. Was barry bonds on take when he was with Pitt as he batted like .015 in post season when he was with them.  Did Sammy Sosa bet on Cubs and is reason why he was corking his bat? I think most people never think of these things and it is because of baseballs integrity.

I firmly believe that Pete should not be allowed back in the game as a manager, scout or any other capacity.  However........

Going by the criteria for the Hall of Fame, he does merit being there as a player.

I hate the fact that he bet on baseball.  Did he do it as a player?  Did he influence the outcome of games while a player?  If he did, then no he shouldn't be allowed to be in the HOF.  If, however, he was betting after he stopped playing, then he should be in the HOF.

That's only my opinion.     :-*

I don't think it should matter if he did it as a player or as a coach... its the idea that he broke a major rule, showing that he doesn't care about the game as we thought he did.  He committed an act against the game, not against managers of the game.

Besides, he probably did bet on games while a player, the guy is a gambling addict.

The guy has cashed in on denying he bet on baseball for 14 years and now he is profiting on saying he did bet on baseball. He has never apologized nor does he seem to care about anything but making money. If he wants in the HOF then I think baseball should make him go around the country and preach about gambling to all players ecspecially minor leaguers and such.

I think Boston Globe is reading my posts. From Mr Shaughnessy's article today.

Rose still doesn't get it

By Dan Shaughnessy, Globe Columnist, 1/7/2004

Here's the deal: When the ground ball trickles between the legs of the first baseman -- allowing the winning run to cross the plate in a World Series game -- absolutely no one wonders whether the game is on the level. There's no wild speculation that the fix is in. It's just an error, a physical mistake made by a human being.

And that's why Pete Rose has a long way to go before he'll be considered for the Baseball Hall of Fame. And that's why he won't get my vote. And that's why he should never be allowed near a big league ballpark without buying a ticket.

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."

    Terry Lucas, 09/26/22
