After falling just short of making the Super Bowl in his hometown as a rookie on the Eagles' practice squad, former USF cornerback Trae Williams signed a contract Monday to join the Eagles' active roster.

"Other teams had called about him, but we knew all along he was going to come back with the Eagles," his agent, Ken Sarnoff, said Tuesday.

Williams was drafted in the fifth round by the Jaguars in April, but was cut in preseason and landed on the Eagles' practice squad, where he stayed all season. With a year under his belt, he'll now have a chance to make Philadelphia's 53-man roster in August.

With Williams on board, there are now nine USF alums on NFL rosters: Williams, DB Anthony Henry (Cowboys), LB Kawika Mitchell (Bills), LB Stephen Nicholas (Falcons), CB Mike Jenkins (Cowboys), DB J.R. Reed (Jets), RB Andre Hall (Broncos), RB Chad Simpson (Colts) and WR Huey Whittaker (Jets).

That didn't say he graduated from here. I thought he transferred out to a 1-AA school ...

You don't have to graduate to be an alumni.

Alumnus is singular...alumni plural...but I digress...  ;D

Anyhow...I didn't know Huey Whitaker was on the Jets...good for him!
