Since the team is applying for medical redshirts for both BJ Daniels and Corey Grissom,  about when will we find out if they are granted.  Will it be after the season,  in the spring or in August?

I believe this doesnt happen until their Senior year, but I could be mistaken.

I think you don't get to apply for a sixth year until you've completed your eligibility, but for a simple medical redshirt, I believe USF should be able to get an answer this spring. There's three players in position to get them -- B.J. Daniels, Cory Grissom and walk-on linebacker LaDre Watkins, who tore his ACL in the season opener.

There have been other players -- Stephen Nicholas, for example -- who got a medical redshirt at USF and USF was identifying them with an additional year of eligibility long before they were seniors.

There had been talk that Grant Gregory and Ryan Schmidt might petition for a sixth year, since both had significant parts of years lost to injuries in addition to their traditional redshirt year. My understanding is that since Cincinnati's Ben Mauk wasn't able to get a sixth year, there isn't any expectation of getting either player granted a sixth year.

As a general rule, you have to be able to show two seasons lost to injury under the medical redshirt criteria in order to get a sixth year, and neither player seems to have that. Because of that, both are playing their final seasons with the Bulls.

Thanks, Greg.

I had it confused with the sixth year rule.
