Now I know our resident Chicken Littles will sully this thread with their negative Rays rants, but I thought this was very interesting:

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/recap?gameId=280808112

Tampa Bay is the sixth team dating to 1902 to be in first place on Aug. 8 or later after having baseball's worst record the year before. The 1991 Atlanta Braves were the only such team that ended the season in first place.

Read it again... only FIVE other teams in the last 106 years have been able to do what the Rays have done this year, and of those five, only ONE was able to win the division.

Those are the kinds of odds this team is up against, and the fact that they're slugging it out toe to toe every night with the Sox and Yanks and GAINING GROUND is nothing short of amazing.

Take the time to enjoy what you're seeing kids.  It only happens on average once every 20 years or so.

“In my mind, I’m kind of like, ‘OK, excuses over'. We know what we need to do. We’ve got the right team together, and now we move forward, and we’ll evaluate and be accountable to each other, including myself, from this point forward.”

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."
