SHREVEPORT, La.-- Centenary College hired Duquesne assistant Greg Gary as its basketball coach Friday.

Gary, 38, replaces Rob Flaska, whose contract was not renewed after three seasons.

Prior to Duquesne, Gary spent four years at South Florida (2004-07) and four more at Miami (2000-04). He began his coaching career at Tulane (1993-97) and returned to the Green Wave (1998-2000) for two more seasons after a year at McNeese State (1997-98).

A native of Anderson, Ind., Gary played point guard for three seasons at Tulane (1989-92) and left as the university's career assists leader. He helped guide the Green Wave to a NCAA tournament appearance as a senior.

Gary inherits a Centenary team that finished 10-21 last season and 4-14 in Summit League play.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
