mikeg- so you are a white sox fan

VG- bosox offense will not be better with arod.they might win  more but there offense will not be better.

garysj and vg- the mlb union is by far the best and now you see why.they have player interests at heart and will not  let one player make a good deal if it is bad precedent.that is a good thing for players(in this case bad for bosox and arod)

this is all arod's fault.he wanted the money.he got it.now he wants money and a good team.he is a spoiled brat. never happy

boston should have went out and got another starter (in addition to schilling}and tried to make peace with nomar.

i am a pitching and defense guy

spoiled or not, how is the blocking of the deal in his interest.  His interests are what he wants, spoiled or not... if he wants less pay to go to a better team, that should be ok.  The union isn't blocking this in his best interest.  This will go to arbitration as Selig is gonna approve the trade.

Then Arod should leave the union, if they aren't benefiting him.  Then the contract wouldn't even be an issue  ;)

if can leave union but would still have to pay union dues.

union has to sign off on this deal

don't blame lawyers for implementing what each side wanted

The problem is that the union ISN'T looking at the bigger picture. I understand that they don't want their players negociating deals down, ostensibly because it would hurt everyone in the membership.

But doesn't it hurt the membership more to be so inflexible that they can't make small sacrifices to extricate themselves from situations they want out of?

Some day some other union member may want to leverage a trade, get out of a contract, or otherwise make a deal to get something they want. Not because it's in the interest of the game, or any high-minded reason like that -- because it's in the self-interest of the union members. But their union has denied them that freedom.

GSJ-what you call a small sacrifice wasa a hard fought agreement over the course of 30 years.

they  players shouldn't move on that point. i agree with them.

AROD put himself in this situation.

union members should not  try to undo deals

the union's job is not to worry about the self interest aof a single member but of the  greater interest  of the membership

baseball players have the best union in the world but this arose after 100 years of management abuse

if management  dealt fairly with employees there  would be no union

happy holidays

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
