Have always wondered this and now watching the replay of the game, I am asking this?
AussieGriff Posted October 22, 2007 Group: Member Topic Count: 0 Content Count: 100 Reputation: 0 Days Won: 0 Joined: 12/25/2005 Share Posted October 22, 2007 The same way every kicked PAT or Field Goal isn't whistled dead when the holder catches the snap. There's an exception when the offense is lined up in field-goal formation. I've posted the exact ruling in another thread recently. (edit) ... and here it is again... didn't know for sure if I had the rulebook on this computer Rule 4.1.3 Alive ball becomes dead and an official shall sound his whistle or declare it dead:..... When any part of the runner’s body, except his hand or foot, touches the ground or when the runner is tackled or otherwise falls and loses possession of the ball as he contacts the ground with any part of his body, except his hand or foot. (Exception : The ball remains alive when an offensive player has simulated a kick or is in position to kick the ball held for a place kick by a teammate. The ball may be kicked, passed or advanced by rule)
