On a fake field goal can the holder get up after having the ball and his knee on the ground?

He had his knee on the ground, and placed the ball on the ground before standing to throw.

We were having a debate watching the game.

I thought maybe there is an exception during field goal attempts but we both said most of the time the holder's knee isn't fully down or it is a direct snap to kicker.

THIS IS A QUESTION NOT AN EXCUSE.

yup, the exception for the rule is on field goals. otherwise the play would be dead the second the ball hits the holder's hands.

For anyone REALLY interested.

Rule 4-1-3-b

When any part of the runner’s body, except his hand or foot, touches

the ground or when the runner is tackled or otherwise falls and loses

possession of the ball as he contacts the ground with any part of his

body, except his hand or foot. (Exception: The ball remains alive when

an offensive player has simulated a kick or is in position to kick the ball

held for a place kick by a teammate. The ball may be kicked, passed or

advanced by rule)

Steve Mazza, you are correct. We were certainly outcoached last night. Leavitt and his staff will not allow this to happen again this season!

Last I checked the scoreboard doesn't have a spot for current bank balance on it.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
