HOUSTON -- The National League right fielder had more than 500 homers, the left fielder more than 600 homers, the catcher more homers than any other player at his position in history. But it was the American League that slugged away, slamming three homers and winning, 9-4, as it continued its recent domination of the All-Star Game.

And because This One Counts -- to borrow the sales pitch -- some of the individuals responsible for the AL victory will benefit in October, now that their league has won homefield advantage for the second year in a row.

Alfonso Soriano takes his former teammate deep in the first inning with a three-run shot.

Maybe it will be Alfonso Soriano, whose three-run homer capped the AL's six-run rally against Roger Clemens in the first inning and earned the second baseman the game's MVP Award; or Oakland's Mark Mulder, the winning pitcher; or the Yankees' Derek Jeter, who had three hits; or Boston's Manny Ramirez and David Ortiz, who each hit homers. "Hey, the World Series is starting in Boston this year," Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling said cheerfully as the AL came off the field.

Schilling won nothing?  He's won a WS title and a cy young!

I guess your definition of winning is successfully sticking your ass with a needle.

He won an nlcs mvp in 1993 with Philly and won a ws mvp in 2001 with arizona.

Last time I looked, he has more World Series wins than Barry Bonds.
