Volleyball Opens At Home

TAMPA, Fla. (Sept. 12, 2006) –  The University of South Florida volleyball team will open up its 2007 campaign at home Thursday, facing in-state rival Central Florida at 7 p.m. in The Corral.

The match against the Golden Knights is the first of the USF Best Western Invitational and will feature a student pizza tailgate starting at 6 p.m. outside The Corral. The first 200 attended fans will also receive t-shirts. The Bulls will continue action on Friday when they face Texas A&M Corpus Christi at 7 p.m. USF closes out the tournament against George Mason on Saturday at 5 p.m. The contest is designated as the Jr. Bulls match.

The Bulls enter this weekend’s action riding a five-match win streak for a 5-1 slate on the year. USF is coming off winning the Wright State Raider Challenge last weekend when it posted a perfect 3-0 record.

Against UCF, the Bulls own a 46-24 edge – including a commanding 19-1 slate at home – in the all-time series history which dates back to Oct. 17, 1974. On the year, the Golden Knights have a 6-5 record, including winning their last four.

The Friday match will be the first meeting between USF and Texas A&M Corpus Christi. The Islanders have a 3-6 slate on the year and are coming off a 3-0 victory over Texas Pan-American.

USF and George Mason have only faced each once, with the Bulls coming out on top, 3-0, on Oct. 13, 1997. The Patriots have a 6-3 mark in 2007 and have won four of their last five matches.
