Q:  Has any player in major league baseball ever been intentionally walked with the bases loaded?

John Lemieux

Bay Village, O.

A:  Three players have been intentionally walked with the bases loaded in he majors--Nap Lajoie, Bill Nicholson and Barry Bonds.

Lajoie was the first player to receive an intentional walk with the bases loaded on May 23 1901 when he played for the Philadelphia A's against the Chicago White Sox. Chicago manager Clark Griffith ordered the pass in a game won by the White Sox, 11-9.

Nicholson was given an intentional walk with the bases loaded in the second game of a doubleheader on July 23, 1944 against the New York Giants at the Polo Grounds. With the Giants leading, 12-9, in the seventh inning, Giants manager Mel Ott ordered rookie pitcher Andy Hansen to walk Nicholson intentionally forcing in a run.

Ott's strategy worked. The Giants went on to win, 12-10, and gain a split in the twin bill. Nicholson had already tied major league records with four homers in a row and four in a doubleheader. His weekend destruction included nine RBI and six homers.

Bonds received his bases loaded intentional pass on May 28, 1998 when Diamond-backs manager Buck Showalter ordered pitcher Gregg Olson to walk Bonds with the bags filled. The walk forces in a run to make the score 8-7 in favor of Arizona with two out in the ninth inning. Showalter's move paid off as the next Giants batter, Brent Mayne, lined out to right field to end the contest

They walk him 4 times, Dodgers win.

Sounds like a pretty good strategy to me!   ;D

great strategy... don't let roid head burn you... its worked out much much more than it has backfired.  probably 70/30 working out positive (not quite as good as the odds of Bonds testing positive for roids/hgh)
