Freshman DT Garrison will miss '07 season

Corian Garrison, an incoming freshman defensive tackle from Starke, said Thursday he will miss the 2007 season as he recovers from surgery to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee.

Garrison, 6-foot-4 and 295 pounds, had injured the knee his sophomore year in high school, playing only four games his junior year. He said he twisted the knee in May playing basketball, and an MRI showed the ACL tear, so he underwent the surgery July 2. Because of the returning depth at defensive tackle, Garrison was likely headed for a redshirt this fall, and his plan is to make a full recovery in time to compete in spring drills in 2008. He'll start classes this fall, but won't count toward the 105-player preseason roster for the Bulls.

Defensive line is one of USF's deepest young positions, with five other true freshmen this fall in Kyle Dampier, David Fonua, Patrick Hampton, Terrell McClain and Darren Powe. Garrison chose USF over a scholarship offer from West Virginia.

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."
