South Florida

Winthrop's Gregg Marshall is expected to visit South Florida over the weekend, but doesn't plan on accepting the job if it is offered without returning home to consider all his options, according to a source close to the situation.

Marshall has some choices to make. Winthop is almost maximizing his salary, bumping him up from $270,000 to $400,000 and locking him in for another 10 years. But there also could be serious buyout terms in the deal. The landscape is changing in the coaching carousel, which might give Marshall some pause before agreeing to go to South Florida. The Bulls are showing more of a commitment but it's still considered one of the worst jobs in the Big East. The Bulls are expected to pay in the $600,000 to $800,000 range to upgrade the program.

If Marshall doesn't click with the Bulls and stays at Winthrop, which is highly possible, then the other names the Bulls are interested in and have already talked to are: former Virginia coach Pete Gillen, South Alabama coach John Pelphrey and current ESPN analyst and former St. John's, New Mexico and Manhattan coach Fran Fraschilla.
