Houston started playing football in 1946. Their first bowl was a win in the "Salad Bowl" in 1952 over Dayton. (seriously, I'm not kidding)

FSU started football in 1947. They played in the 1955 Sun Bowl against UTEP.

Miami started football in 1927. They played in the 1935 Orange Bowl against Bucknell.

SMU started football in 1915. They played in the 1925 Dixie Classic bowl against West Virginia Wesleyan.

Also it took Air Force 3 years. Started football in 1956 and played in the 1959 Cotton Bowl. Now THAT is impressive.

The Salad Bowl was an annual post-season American college football bowl game played at Montgomery Stadium in Phoenix, Arizona, from 1948 to 1952. The Salad Bowl was a precursor to the current Fiesta Bowl.
