So here's the question. Given that USF has (a) beat WVU @ WVU and (b ) won their bowl game over another CUSA team (waxing ECU for the fourth time), is it going to be harder to generate interest in this game?

I don't mean attendance; season ticket holders will still show up as will students, but this series taking on some sort of 'rivalry status', could well be fading in the rearview mirror. And that means that the local press is just going to have to work even harder to make chicken soup...  ;)

UCF never was our rival.

I would submit that it never made it into USF's front windshield.  It has always been crystal clear that this game meant more to one team over the other, and while a small number of vocal USF fans have expressed a desire for this to occur, the overall USF population doesn't see UCF as a peer much less a rival.  Hence, no long term contract, when it could have easily been arranged.

Well, the UCF game sure meant a lot to these folks..

Don't think the game meant anything to this guy

This one...players were sooo happy...they were stomping on the UCF logo at mid-field after the game.

Also...considering that the USF/UCF game in 2005 is still the largest ACTUAL attendance game for USF in their RJS History, sure seems like a lot of USF fans, both in '05 and '06, like it as well.

I disagree, this whole "UCF is not our rival thing" is mostly an internet thing.  Ask anyone and chances are they'll say UCF is indeed our rival.  We can't keep on denying it.

The "overall USF population" doesn't care about football period and it certainly doesn't control the signing of contracts.

I asked, and 9 out of 10 people on the street said they were indeed our rival.  It doesn't mean I agree with them, that is just the perception from the fans.  If we don't want people to have that idea then let's stop scheduling them after '08.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
