what's the difference between a 3 star and 4 star recruit? Are there 5 star recruits?

The DT we just got sounds awesome but is a 3 star? What causes him or someone else not to be a 4 star recruit?

The stars are supposed to be a relative comparison between recruits... but it's usually arbitrary.  Five star recruits, and there are five stars on Scout, tend to be fairly obvious - the best high school players in the country (Noel Devine, Tim Tebow, etc).  The difference between three or four stars isn't much.

Most schools don't use the stars to determine who they recruit.  They judge by talent on the field and on film.
