Only ONE national championship.  USC belongs to a BCS conference, and has agreed to abide by the BCS championship game to determine the national championship.  They have only won one of those games.

Only people in CA think that USC won a championship in 2003.  I'll repeat this for you slowly so that perhaps you'll be able to understand it:

USC is a member of the PAC-10

PAC-10 is a member of the BCS

BCS conferences recognize the BCS Championship Game winner as the National Champion

USC didn't win the BCS Championship Game in 2003

USC wasn't the National Champion in 2003

Here, I'll take it a step further for you:

The AP Poll has asked to NOT be included in the National Championship equation

The AP Poll has nothing to do with earning a National Championship

USC won nothing by winning the AP Poll

Kapisch?

Talk about revisionist history!

Ok, first, the AP has NOT stopped crowning national champions.  It HAS demanded the BCS not use their poll due to its unlawful use. http://www.usatoday.com/sports/college/football/2004-12-21-ap-bcs-withdrawal_x.htm

Second, this happened in December 2004 AFTER USC AP national Championship (for which the AP gave them a trophy signifying their recognition of USC as national champion http://usctrojans.cstv.com/sports/m-footbl/spec-rel/010504aaa.html).

Third, the NCAA does not recognize the BCS as any different than any other poll in their Official 2006 NCAA Division I-A and I-AA Records Book http://www.ncaa.org/library/records/football/football_records_book/2006/2006_d1_football_records_book.pdf.  In fact, they do not list BCS champions, only the champions of BCS components (as well as many non-BCS polls).  You will also find a list of national poll champions and a list of consensus national champions. For the year 2003 BOTH LSU and USC are listed.
