USF Women Receive Votes In Preseason ESPN-USA Today Coaches Poll  

Tampa, FL (November 1, 2006) – The University of South Florida women’s basketball team made, what hopes to be, the first of many appearances this season in the national rankings. Although not ranked in the Top 25, the Bulls received four votes in the ESPN-USA Today Coaches Poll which was released Tuesday evening.

USF, who received votes 10 times last season the coaches’ poll and twice in the Associated Press Top 25, was one of seven team’s from the BIG EAST Conference making the list. Connecticut (No. 8), Rutgers (No. 11), and DePaul (No. 19) all appeared in the Top 20 while Louisville, St. John’s, Pittsburgh, and the Bulls all received Top 25 votes.

Last week, at the annual BIG EAST Women’s Basketball Media Day at ESPN Zone in New York City, USF was picked by the leagues coaches to finish seventh in the conference receiving 136 points.

The Bulls are coming off the most memorable season in the program’s history. USF finished with a 19-12 record and a 9-7 slate in their first year in the BIG EAST Conference. In addition, the Bulls advanced to their first-ever NCAA Tournament earning a No. 9 seed in the Bridgeport Region. They faced the No. 8 seed USC in the first round in Norfolk, VA, losing to the Women of Troy 67-65.

The Bulls will play their only exhibition game of the season on Sunday, Nov. 5 at 7 p.m. against the Hollywood Sun in The Corral, located in the Sun Dome (Entry 1).

USF will then open the 2006-07 regular season on Nov. 10 when it faces UW-Milwaukee at 7 p.m.
